I don’t know about this particular use case, but this tweet implies that magnetic tapes are an outdated technology which is not at all true. They’re incredibly cheap, degrade much more slowly than hard drives, use almost no energy, and are basically entirely insulated from cyberattacks

Claims like the below are being spread around. As far as I can tell this is totally untrue, and seems to be based on a misleading (now deleted) paragraph in the Wikipedia page ISO 8601 It’s not *impossible* the SS codebase uses a custom epoch of 1875, but there’s no such widespread standard
