@chriscurtis94.bsky.social is absolutely right - this is urgent. It's families in temporary accommodation and people struggling to pay their energy bills who are facing the consequences of our failure to build homes and energy infrastructure.

Reform DOGE is a very good thing tbh. It should be encouraged. Let them see where the money is actually going and then still pretend there are billions to cut on woke.

Good

Perfect example of why monorails are just dumb. You shouldn't need this much infrastructure at ever switch. x.com/HowThingsWor...

Dan is right (and it’s why Gary S frustrates me so much - it’s very much “try this simple trick to fix society that only impacts people you hate”). Ultimately we are probably not at the revenue maximising top rate of tax, but there v likely is a rate where the revenue sign is negative.

Britain’s economic decline is an emergency – like war or a pandemic. If we don’t put an end to it, Nigel Farage will be Prime Minister. The system is addicted to inertia. It needs shock therapy, now. @chriscurtis94.bsky.social and others tell @jessicaelgot.bsky.social for @theguardian.com 1/2

I don't know if I am going mad, but it won't let me skip this.

It's happened again: the Conservatives have spun a number that would be a disaster for their party to lose (this time, 542) and they've managed to beat it.

1) Renters right bill 2) Biggest employment rights package in a generation 3) Billions of pounds extra into our NHS, with waiting lists falling month on month 4) Punishing water company bosses who dump sewage in our rivers 5) Bold planning reforms so we can get Britain building again

Tragic but true

Ever wondered what happens to your exam papers after you’ve finished with them? Well, we had the pleasure of welcoming @chriscurtis94.bsky.social, the constituency MP for Milton Keynes North, and members of our Student Advisory Group, to show them behind the scenes.

First marathon ✅ Thanks for all the kind messages and for all those who have donated and supported.

Love, love, LOVING Kemi Badenoch, of all people, warning against “trawling social media for things someone might find offensive.”

Amazingly, proof of the “get out there” strategy here - YouTube algorithm just served up this theme park channel (113k subscribers), and @chriscurtis94.bsky.social unexpectedly turns up as a guest! MPs should do more of this! youtu.be/EEZFkDPQ5S4?...

ICYMI - we published a new report on rebalancing the country endorsed by @chriscurtis94.bsky.social of the Labour Growth Group and @jowhitemp.bsky.social of the Red Wall Group. Below are my 5️⃣ favourite charts from the report. 🧵

Great evening in the Terrace Pavillion for the Labour Together and Portland Parliamentary staffers reception, recognising the hard work of Labour staffers. Rousing speeches from @jonashworth.bsky.social, Claire Reynolds, Steve Morris, @chriscurtis94.bsky.social, and @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social

Lovely to be back in #Exeter today to support our wonderful candidates in the county council elections & MP Steve Race.

💫 We’re launching the Centre for British Progress Our founding essay: Rediscovering British Progress is a case for growth that drives shared progress, rooted in Britain's values and industrial heritage. It all starts with a postcard from 1870 👇 britishprogress.org/articles/red...

Reform of the State is a precursor to economic growth. As @chriscurtis94.bsky.social says, the risk of keeping the status quo now "significantly outweighs the risk of reform". Our report with @labourgrowth.bsky.social sets out key steps that would allow for a more nimble, effective Whitehall.

Fixing the state is a necessary condition for fixing the economy. Whitehall is not wired for growth, but we can change that. Great to partner with @labourgrowth.bsky.social and @chriscurtis94.bsky.social to publish this joint paper on rebuilding state capacity!

🚨New @politicshome.bsky.social pod 🚨 Has Rachel Reeves become the ‘concrete Chancellor’? Labour’s @chriscurtis94.bsky.social, ex-Treasury minister John Glen, @helenbarnard.bsky.social from @trusselluk.bsky.social and Greg Thwaites from @resfoundation.bsky.social dissect the Spring Statement:

Never really know why they put the Sky Helicopter up on days like this. Do they think she is giving the speech on the roof?

My possibly controversial view is that the focus of the census should shift so it better supports making the rest of our survey infrastructure more accurate.

Fascinated in the 1 in 20 people who have changed their mind about the reintroduction of Brown bears over the last six years. What's the key moment that convinced them it was a bad idea?

I can't say this firmly enough: if you think 'the UK should spend more on defence so it can play a part in the defence of Europe' is analagous to...what, the British empire or an opportunity to air your grief about leaving the EU, you are a child who needs to grow up.

Surprisingly meh poll for Jenrick. If he can't get the wide support of the membership after Badenoch's car crash leadership, he's going to struggle.

Now he should do climate change.

If Reform continues at their current attrition rate, they will have -2.5 MPs by the time of the next election.
