Smart move Liverpool.

Worth noting they won it 1-0

No problem and just to add, not all #LFC fans hold this view. Everyone’s entitled to think what they like but many feel let down and for the reasons stated, I think they’re entitled to. When all said and done, he moves on, so does the club.

it was to win the ballon d’or, he was focused on individual awards. Background to this was an unsigned contract….He’d already decided to join RM. He could (and should) have just been honest. I don’t begrudge him, many don’t but for good or ill, for the fans loyalty and integrity matters. He blew it.

Well, it’s complicated but at the heart of it is how he’s managed his departure, or rather how his brother(agent) has. He was always clear about wanting to captain the club and be a one club man, a statement a couple of years ago. Then at the beginning of this season his stated ambition changed ..

Your post starts well, you ā€˜don’t get it’, you then start comparing the situation to other clubs. I humbly suggest, if you don’t get it, probably best not to comment. Oh, and no one has suggested he can’t be allowed to leave.

Keep trying. Maybe show your face, that’d be funny.

He’s creative between the lines, has an eye for goal and works extremely hard to win the ball back. He links play exceptionally well. I’d say he’s perfect for #LFC. Reminds me a little of Firmino.

He’s in the elite category of footballers. There aren’t many.

I was there. Was season of hillsborough. #lfc played 5 games in 10 days šŸ‘

ā€œThree of us up thereā€. What a joker. The only league that matters to fans is the one the team plays in. Bud.

Ally McCoist is not an Anfield legend.

No, my point is that your position and tone is one of separation and protection. I agree, the EU has a right to protect what it has established. The UK did this with the EU but the prospect of realignment will grow ever distant if you fail to find commonality, nurture that instead of adversity.
comment in response to post
Well, I think the world needs people prepared to work together not apart. I speak from the PoV of an ardent remainer who benefits from EU citizenship through my Irish heritage. As an educator, I hope this exchange helps you reflect.

Do you live in the UK? I do and like all countries, it is vulnerable to the right wing press. The general consensus is that the electorate were lied to in the Brexit referendum. If you don’t understand the core issue of voter manipulation then the UK won’t be the last country/bloc to fail.
comment in response to post
With respect, your view is entrenched in separation and not in the spirit of collaboration. Maybe derived from the mean spirited Boris Johnson and evangelicals like Farage. They dont represent the majority in the UK. We all need to move on.

Why?

If he’s not arrived T that conclusion, he should really consider his position.

Just need the moderates to step up. I like Ed Davey but he’s got a great opportunity to create space between the Labour/reform right wingers. Needs to really start using it.

It’s not the only misstep. They’ve solved nothing.

They’re petrified of having the sensible conversation/argument about the benefits of immigration. Until they drop that bomb, they’ll continue slipping away.

Also, it would be interesting to know how many voters in these areas base their national vote on the state of their locality. A Reform fail could be bad for government.

Voted Labour all my life. Not any more.
comment in response to post
After stuffing for 14 years under the Tories, I was delighted to vote Labour. 9 months on, I’ve no idea what they stand for. The only certainty is that now they won’t get my vote. I’m pro Europe so the Lib Dem’s it is.
comment in response to post
I think that’s fair. Labour do repeat the red lines but a headline of the manifesto was to increase growth. That’s what they’ll be measured on and unless they are decisive, they’ll fail. It’s politics.
comment in response to post
Their challenge is to hasten it. It begins with a show of intent and goodwill to negotiators. A clear and unambiguous strategy on this wins votes immediately. Whether that’s enough…? Labour are straddling multiple horses. Reform aren’t and they know their market has a cap.
comment in response to post
If Labour want to battle it out with Reform for the right leaning vote, what’s their plan to make people lives better? if they’re not prepared for a fundamental tax reform then it has to be growth and in the time they have left to implement change and realise benefits it is SM access.
comment in response to post
They have to be more honest about what’s holding the country back, single market access.

Reminded of an experience in NY in the early 90s. We were in a Manhattan youth hostel canteen, in trooped a group of young people from a southern state. They walked in military style, ate in silence and left as one when given permission. I was genuinely shocked. They were not of independent mind.

Dreadful.
comment in response to post
True. You make a good point, everyone’s experiencing life differently and that gives a sense of unfairness. The country is divided and no one agrees how to bring it together. IMO #brexit broke this country. We took for granted the benefits of a single market on pretty much everything.
comment in response to post
I think their approach is growth. That can only happen if they breakdown the barriers with trade to the EU. Unfortunately it will take time both to implement and for the benefits to be realised. Fear it will then be too late.
comment in response to post
As long as the media only ever covers immigration as the primary issue affecting many people in this country, the far right will grow. I think it’s quite simple.
comment in response to post
That he’s so adamant is the reveal. He, like his followers believe only what they want to, despite fact and evidence to the contrary. He’s a fact bomber.

Do you oh think geography plays some part in the EU position?

Trump and Putin, two dreadful men surrounded by sycophants.

Then it’s very difficult to say what will happen. The only certainty would be an uncontrolled escalation of war. /end
comment in response to post
…At this point Europe will be more involved in the war and with a now a more reliable US supplementing an active European force, Russia will be overwhelmed. Important during that time that Europe/UK maintain strong relations with China re trade etc otherwise 😱. If however the US changes sides 2/
comment in response to post
Thanks for bringing this together Steve. Russias view of the conflict is so far from the rest of Europes. Question is whether the US walks away or changes sides? If they walk away, war will continue but end when the balance of power in the US flips back mid terms?….1/
comment in response to post
More of this. He backed down because he had to, now China can mock him without worrying about retaliation. In the UK we would describe his position as ā€˜snookered’.
comment in response to post
Donald, you’re not playing hardball because you’ve tried that with your ridiculous tariffs and you were embarrassed, again. Pity the people of the US, especially those that didn’t vote for this.

Bottled it. Again.
