It's the end of an era. This is the last of my Radio Shack branded desoldering braid.

This was supposed to be a one day project but this thing has been occupying my workbench for almost a week now.

#PicoGUS is now an ODE! I've just released firmware v3.0.0, which adds Panasonic CD-ROM drive emulation. Put some ISOs or BIN/CUE files on a USB stick, plug it into your PicoGUS, and you've got a virtual CD-ROM drive that works in DOS and Windows 9x and supports CD audio. github.com/polpo/picogu...

Still fighting with this Commodore PC10-III motherboard. I've now replaced U321, U322, U323, U324, U325, U326, U327, and U328. Both U325 and U328 tested fine. Doesn't matter, all new chips and it still only sees 512k. I'm stumped. What now? #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

This Commodore PC10-III motherboard is killing me. It only sees 512k instead of 640k. Swapped out the 41464 chips, old ones all tested bad but still only sees 512k with new chips. Swapped out 74S10N. Old one tests bad, new one installed, still only 512k. ARGH! #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

The video from my talk at VCF East 2025, "Making a Hardware Emulator for a Legendary PC Sound Card" is now on YouTube! www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTLA...

Some new gameplay highlights! What's it like to go on the adventure in Quantum Witch? Take a look! Choices have consequences and you'll find yourself in the middle of a feud between old gods, and the outcome is down to you... store.steampowered.com/app/3100650/... (please boost if you can!)

This is fun. A 1984 BBC video about computer games with a focus on the (ill-fated) Bandersnatch game. youtu.be/buuUZFh_pyk... #VintageComputing #RetroComputing #RetroGaming

There are no Magic Eye books available on Audible.

Smartphone UI peaked with Windows Phone 10. Every aspect of Android and iOS interfaces today is inferior.

Apropos of nothing...

A biopic series about Roberto Gómez Bolaños (aka Chespirito) begins today. I'm trying to decide if I want to watch it or if I'd be happier not knowing how the sausage was made, so-to-speak. #SiganmeLosBuenos

Watching Victor Borge celebrate his 80th birthday on VHS.

I have worked with Polar Filament to get color matched Classic Mac Platinum PLA filament made - only $21.99 per kilogram. WOO HOO! Order now, order plenty, and let them know you want them to print it forever! polarfilament.com/pr...

I had a lot of vintage computing stuff planned for the long weekend. Those plans were interrupted for a good cause. Our foster dog, Miss Ruffles, got to meet some people on Saturday and today, she got to go with them to her forever home! Hooray! #Dogs

Hit a new "I feel old" achievement... someone I just met asked me if I was retired. You know how it's never appropriate to ask someone if they're pregnant? This is in a similar category.

Was given a dual floppy Mac SE recently. Powered it up tonight and could have sworn I heard a hard drive spinning up inside. Opened it up and, sure enough, a third party hard drive kit was installed. 40MB drive is no longer working, though. #VintageComputing #RetroComputing #Macintosh

Anybody know what this is? A search for "Microsoft Windows Graphical Environment Working Model" doesn't yield any results. Won't be able to try the disks myself for a few days.

@adriansdigitalbasement.com I have some spare Panasonic phones for that switch. I'd be happy to send you a couple if you'd like.

Back in 1986, Johnny Carson made some jokes about dentists in a Tonight Show monologue, including one that likened them to the Gestapo. One dentist took offense and sued him over it... (1/2)

#PicoGUS can now emulate both a CDROM drive and Sound Blaster in parallel, smoothly playing both CD audio and SB sound effects simultaneously. Still a lot of polish to do before a new firmware release but I'm excited!! This is MechWarrior 2 with bin/cue stored on a USB stick plugged into the PicoGUS

Never fly Delta. Never ever.

Not going to lie, when I first heard about a Murderbot series, I thought it was some kind of Futurama spinoff.

i'm pleased to release the Amiga 1000 SCSI Sidecar! this clone of the old Comspec SA-1000 makes a great storage solution for your A1000, paired up with a SCSI hard disk. the design is open source under the CERL-OHL-P and available right here: github.com/schlae/a1000...

Allegorical.
