I've ran around 20 sessions during beta, and while it's a bridge from trad games to something more narrative (see: PbtA, FitD), it's not just D&D with lighter rules. Daggerheart isn't played in a 'DM tells everything and players react to everything' way.

i feel like the only reliable people to talk to irl for me are bartenders from the places i frequent, and it's definitely not healthy; most of my friends left my country and don't plan on returning, and we're dispersed all around the globe :(

D&D is not a good introductory game for anyone apart from computer RPG crowd. For kids there are things like Tiny Dungeons, which are waaaay easier to learn.

I understand what you mean by 'any RPG can do that' and agree wholeheartedly, but please bear in mind Daggerheart isn't PbtA or a similar game -- it's more of a bridge for D&D players and AP watchers. It puts narrative features forward in its description, but it's still approachable for trad players

Second page has background questions and connections. Also, a number of cards and actions won't work until you establish a relevant scene in the narrative, like 'describe how you uplift the spirits of your teammate and gain hope' and not just 'gain hope'.

These games also taught me to state consequences before the roll in case they aren't obvious, like 'we know you're gonna persuade them sooner or later, but let's see how this person will feel about this tomorrow ;)'

I love PbtA/BitD games, so B all the way. Rolling to hit might bring a lot of interesting complications, but rolling low damage often undermines work you've brought to the to hit roll.

My last two D&D campaigns were structured as a series of one shots. Not in a sense of monster of the week or different adventures every time -- it was mostly about pacing. I wanted every session to have meaningful scenes because we're all adults. It worked flawlessly.

Daggerheart didn't do anything new for me, but it quickly became my go-to fantasy system for conventions and one shots with newbies. It has everything they need.

Relocating actions to cards instead of a character sheets still lets players build their characters, but it's more beautiful, more understandable, more clean. You character sheet is a place to mark HP and put links with other players, your cards are your abilities.

It faces forward to the players, especially to newbies; to those who always wanted to play, but could only watch action plays; to those who became disenchanted with the hegemon. Its GM chapter is one of the best I've seen. It teaches you how to run the game and teaches a lot of great things.

It still carries the distinctive feeling of heroic fantasy, but with way less crunch; it doesn't force dungeon structure of playing; it mostrly adheres to PbtA agenda; it repeatedly drills 'use common sense' into the reader.
