Well, we have plenty of governments that would be in the 1940s called fascist. Just to draw a line between italian policies in 20s, 30s and early 40s with current Israel-Palestine/Gaza situation.

Diving into modern approaches to urbarium and other early modern tax documents! 📝 The focus: #ecohistory, #TheLittleIceAge, #PriceRevolution, thinking beyond national #historiography, and consulting German expertise on church possessions. Plus, some Ginzburg-style #microhistory for good measure. 🌍📚😍

To close this "novel"-style post, I’d like to thank you for reading and invite you to share your opinion with me. And yes, there’s plenty missing since it’s hard to cover everything here, and I may have unintentionally made some mistakes. My goal was to bring this topic into the #spotlight.

Current Prime Minister Plenković had to remove 15 ministers due to corruption suspicions. Two were arrested while in office, and the others are still under #investigation. For many Croats, accusations like "pro-Russian" mean little when the author keeps piling up #scandal after scandal.
comment in response to post
In the end, there's another perspective here in Croatia that the rest of the world ignores when discussing a "pro-Russian" president. The center-right HDZ is essentially a " #mafia -like organization". (Refularly used!) The party has a court ruling for #corruption and was fined over €2 million.

The debate over whether to help Ukraine is part of the #PoliticalTheater here. Both parties often share similar views, so they distinguish themselves by opposing each other. Like small children. When the SDP pushed for #EUintegration, HDZ focused more on preserving sovereignty, etc.

A country of 3.8 million isn’t a #global player, but united with other "small" nations, we can achieve much. That’s what we believe the #UnitedNations are for. Country experienced war not long ago, the dilemma of how to help war-torn Ukraine stirs painful memories.

One of the key quotes in our national history comes from Vladko Maček in the early months of WWII: "When the great powers fight, the small ones belong under the table." As a #historian and #HomoPoliticus, I can't agree with this view, but I understand its logic.
comment in response to post
The difference now is that being labeled a "Russian agent" garners much wider publicity—and that’s understandable. Croatia's political history shows a pattern of cautious approaches to global conflicts, from Maček (HSS) in the #1940s to President Tuđman (HDZ) in the #1990s, and now Milanović (SDP).
comment in response to post
Debating whether to fully support Brussels' policies or adopt a more reserved, compromise-driven approach hardly justifies labeling someone a "Russian boy." Yet, since independence, calling political opponents #American, #Russian, or other agents has been a recurring theme in Croatian #politics.
comment in response to post
The "pro-Russian" label stems from a verbal war between Plenković and Milanović, active since the 2020 elections and escalating in 2022. Plenković backs #Ukraine and all #Brussels policies, while Milanović stated Ukraine won’t join #NATO during conflict and Croatian troops won’t go there, etc.
comment in response to post
Historians often ask: who started it, why, and how was it perceived? Croatia's PM #Plenković first called President #Milanović "pro-Russian" on April 21, 2022. From then, it all began. Plenković leads the center-right #HDZ, while Milanović was a leader of the Social Democrats #SDP.

I have seen discussion about cars on FB, IG and some national media. So I really don't know what you are talking about. 😅🤣

Glad to hear everything went well. It's always better to overprepare than to feel unprepared later. 😅

Most of the people actually hope ex terrorists made the same rebranding/evolution just like the Irish revolutionary army and ETA in Baskia (Spain). I suggest googling it, there are some good academic papers on the topic of how terrorist groups become legitimate political parties.
comment in response to post
There are multiple groups active in Syria. Kurds with a relatively secular sort of western government in the eastern part of the country, some forces backed by Turkey, Druzi - very interesting minority in the SW of the country, ex terrorists rebranded as a political player and ISIS.

And that is some shady looking link here. Like wannabe CNN in this preview, but actually probably some virus infected page. #staysafe

At the same time, we should clearly convey our expectation of a more moderate approach toward various minority groups. (2) #EU #Syria #politics

In the #Balkans we have almost nonexistent #Democracy. It's all about tribalism, killing each other if we have the chance to do it, we speak almost the same language,... Most things I see in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, etc. I see it in the #MiddleEast.
comment in response to post
Someone said if we get something on the line between Saudi Arabia and Emirates we need to be extremely happy. Not sure if that will happen. I remember reading one historian as part of my education, and he said Balkans, N. Africa and the Middle East are the same people. Same mentality, same problems

Kicking them out won't work. Look at Vučić in Serbia. The same type of dog shit (sorry for vocabulary). And punishing people is also not a very effective method. I'll adapt Croatian saying "It's time for Hungary to be on the table, not at the table."
comment in response to post
While the Croatian minister of defense 10 days ago said Hungary is the biggest threat to Croatia. Excluding claims on many parts of our territory, now we know a little bit more reasons to be sure of it. #Europe #Croatia #Hungary

From a croatian perspective (EU) I have never heard anything like that, probably because university education is state-funded, and professors tend to treat us almost exactly as they would in elementary or high school. I suppose such words would need further explanation. #academia #academicsky

While England modified its constitution and the role of the monarch, the USA has retained the same system. They have kept it in a sort of cryonic state for over 200 years. And still does. Btw, good job putting all that together. 😄
comment in response to post
The best part is that the republic and the position of the president in the USA are essentially a copy of the monarchy system in 18th-century England. The position of the president is comparable to that of a king; it was just politically inconvenient to call the leader of the USA a king.

To be honest, they publish once a year, around June or July. So, I suppose they will start sending feedback after the New Year. 😅😂

I sent the paper sometime at the end of July. I received a reply confirming that it had been received, and since then, I have been (im)patiently waiting for them to inform me whether they will accept or decline it. 🤣🤣🤣 #AcademicSky #StudentLife #HistoryResearch

Usually small languages have terrible language models and database. Like, for example google translate.

As a student, I use it to check grammar, to modify sentences I struggle with how to edit or make the flow of text more natural. It has a lot of benefits this way. Especially because I'm writing in croatian, my native language, and it's doing a surprisingly good job.

I got it. As historian so far I was more closer with quantitative analysis, while qualitative was always something spontaneous that I have to implement from time to time. If you haven't collected data and transcription hasn't been done in full analysis and dose of distance def should be applied.
