I think China imports the vast majority of the oil it consumes and has about 40 years of coal reserves. No wonder it's so keen on renewables. The silver lining is cheap solar PV battery systems for us if we're sensible enough to take advantage of their availability.

The article mentions a " new UK-EU customs union" but I can't any way that can be more than the UK agreeing to dynamically align with the EU. OTOH, I don't see the EU ever putting itself in a position where it would have to agree customs union changes with a third country that would have a veto.
