Sigh. I won't claim I'm the opposite, but I often catch myself not giving the battle sequences the attention that their craft deserves. Which is to say: Can't please everyone, so you get to make your own judgement.

I learned this the hard way. Bright side, it's stuck.

I mean, given current world events, "Algorithm attempts to enrage" gets a +4 on its base skill.

Reading you (either fiction or social media) remains both fascinating and disturbing. Thank-you-I-think.

"Nero" isn't the worst suggested nickname I've heard.

Heh. They were one of our lifelines during the pandemic. Unfortunately, my transparency and muttering *did* increase somewhat .....

I, for one, welcome our new numerological cultural meme overlords.

Gotta admit, I was sorta looking forward to the Ironhand Imperium turning out to be a corporate dystopia, and AIs being accidentally created by the wrong kind of magic and turning on their creators. But that's probably too many plot twists, given that you've got several guns on the wall already.

Oh! Ok. My bad.
What universe is Seekers in the Void in? One of your existing ones, or a new one? (I should be on top of this but I don't remember you mentioning it before.)

I ... am fascinated that the world of Nine-Sailed Star would produce emergent AIs and corporate dystopias, though ... ok, I can see it. That's going to be some interesting plot twists.
(Was always going to check out the book; quite excited to hear that it drops next week.)

Hey, leaves room for a future SOOPER-GENIUS act.

And I think there's an important distinction between how minimalist the art *could* be, and how minimalist *you* would feel comfortable with it being.
(Don't get me wrong, if you do a visual novel I'll totally read it. But yeah, not a path to be lightly undertaken.)

Oh, yay, you're going back to that universe!
(Mind you, I've been a bit wary of not being your target demographic since you shut down Peacekeepers of Sol since it wasn't selling well :-J )

A not very unusual life, but very well narrated!

I don't suppose you have a pointer to nitrogren fertilizer effect on soil depletion and its long-term sustainability? I've heard that using nitrogren fertlizer leads to baseline soil nutrient depletion and thus isn't sustainable, but I assume that can't be completely correct?

Mix tapes? Though I grant online playlists mostly fill that niche.

It may depend on which part of America. I've certainly done this and not felt bad about it, but I'm sure I know people who would be horrified.
(Though I'm from NYC, which I'd think would be on the "Intensely ignore the people you're sitting next to" end of the scale, so maybe this is just me.)

I'm reluctant to ask (I mostly agreed with the second round review comment you quoted in your acknowledgements) but are you planning to write a sequel to _The Blackwing War_, and when? It's an awesome book in an awesome universe, even if it is grim.
(For others: Don't worry, it's complete itself.)

The fact that my reaction was "Yeah, I'm happy to adopt that as headcanon" says interesting things about the nature of reality at the moment.

Yeah. It's hard to evaluate threat models carefully, but if you're carrying a cell phone you've got a fairly major tracking vulnerability. Pictures are a different threat model, but I don't think a particularly more dangerous one.

Nope, not a pro thing. You've just often said "If you want to know something, ask!" and I've had basically zero idea how to do that, and responding to a random message in bluesky (or @ing you in a post) seemed weird. I'm probably just too much of an introvert.

Having watched several medical crises and end of life declines, another thing that can drive acquiring money is fear of disaster. I think that deserves a bit more sympathy than "keeping score", though it does lead somewhat inexorably to the same "No amount is enough" result.
