I feel the first three are kind of repetitive in terms of overarching plot. However, it's refreshing how Pratchett, and even Vimes himself, heartily believe in ACAB.

Ooh, do they have any of the clips from the Devil's Advocates? I remember they were a fun running gag.

Ooh, what did you get?

My cat Sabrina likes sleeping in between us, on top of my right arm, and I LOVE it, so I know the feeling.

Oops, the alt text on that second photo should read as May 7, not May 6.

I really haven't felt this good about a sample set before! The Penhaligons set I got for Black Friday got boring about halfway through. And the Andrea Maack set I got around New Years (for free!) had a perfume in it that made me nauseous as soon as I put it on.

Honestly, though, I haven't been failed by any of the samples from Paraphrase yet. They haven't all been home runs, but none of them have been "meh" or "this is awful, I need to wash it off immediately".

Grasslands is the one I'm trying out today, and it is AMAZING - sweet without being gourmand, herbal without being astringent. It's got notes of rosemary, tobacco, lavender, mimosa, hay, oakmoss and tonka bean. It's like sitting in the middle of a summer field on a hot, hazy day.

Another #GoodThing:
Last week, I ordered samples from Paraphrase Perfumes, and I've been making my way diligently through the whole set. So far my favourites are Burrow, Smoked Bloom, and Grasslands.

When I opened the Strawberry Green pouch, I was hit with a *wallop* of fruity strawberry smell. Instant nostalgia. I've had this tea on and off for over a decade - I first had it back when Teaopia, a long-defunct Canadian chain, was in business and the blend was called "Spring Morning".

On Friday night, I made an order for tea from Citizen Tea, a Canadian tea shop that I haven't ordered from in years.
It all arrived yesterday, much faster than I expected it to - and with free shipping!
Their Strawberry Green and Cactus Fig Green smell just as good as I remember.

1. A few days ago, Rob and I bought some new bedsheets. One of the sets we bought has a very whimsical pattern of cats, houseplants, and cats *eating* houseplants that I find absolutely delightful.

I tried Green Beaver, but it wasn't effective for me at all. I ended up getting some Nivea deodorant from Shoppers, since the brand is owned by Beiersdorf, which is German. It's still not perfect, but it works better for me.

I probably should too, but it's a library hold so I can't really wait. At this point, it's also kind of a hate-read.

I love it when billionaires unintentionally kneecap each other. More of this, please.

However, it does have some unintentionally golden anecdotes.
It turns out that the reason one of Zuck's pet projects crashed and burned in 2015 was because it *literally* crashed and burned... because Facebook's satellite was on a SpaceX rocket that exploded on the launchpad.

3. To close out the day and pay some sort of homage to Beltane\May Day\Summertide, I went out onto the balcony while the sun was setting and repotted a bunch of my houseplants in fresh soil. I'm going to take the used up soil to spread over my garden plot.

2. On my way back from the garden, I ran into one of my fellow gardeners and her dog, Hugo. He's part lab, part poodle, and part spaniel, and his fur was very soft. #ThreeGoodThings

3. I had my weekly Zoom call with friends just now. We call ourselves the DoomChat, because we've been doing it regularly since the pandemic. Tonight, I introduced them to the wonders of both "Sally Ride" by Janelle Monae AND "Sheep Go to Heaven" by Cake.

2. On the same walk to work, I saw a golden retriever puppy. It was so excited to be out and full of frolic that it kept getting tangled up in its leash (which, if I recall correctly, was hot pink).

In the world of music, there are some...problematic...musical instruments that look beautiful but don't work properly. They're called "cello-shaped objects," "harp-shaped objects," etc. ChatGPT generates essay-shaped objects, bio-shaped objects, story-shaped objects, and so on down the line.

I donated to Fair Vote Canada before the election and distributed door hangers for them in my neighborhood. As far as I could tell, I was the only volunteer in my riding. I felt like a doofus going door to door sometimes.

3. The sample set of perfumes I ordered from Paraphrase came in! I haven't worn any of them directly, but using the tester cards provided, I am very interested in Grasslands, Smoked Bloom, and Burrow.

2. The Liberals won in my riding, thank fuck. Now I need to turn my attention to figuring out how to best advocate for electoral reform; hoping for the Liberals to keep winning in perpetuity is not a sustainable solution for true progress.

The funny thing is that for *this* riding in particular, there were a LOT of independents running to make a specific point about electoral reform in Canada. 91 candidates total - the longest individual ballot in Canadian history.

3. Last night during DnD, I lost a D4 from one of the dice sets I was using. I found it this aft; it just miraculously showed up in the space b/t 2 couch cushions, even though I checked that spot repeatedly and even sat there earlier. I guess the dice elves took pity on me. #ThreeGoodThings

2. It was a very sunny day, so I went out for a brief grocery run after work. I was finally able to restock on oats and frozen berries. (This time, I bought a bag of frozen berry mix with cherries, which feels particularly fancy.)

We, as a country, have the chance to make today the worst day of Pierre Poilievre's life.
For the love of all that is holy and/or spiteful, I hope we take it.
