Every app I’ve ever liked (Sunrise calendar, Tweetdeck, Nuzzel, Dark Sky, to name a few) just gets acquired and shut down. Sad. www.theverge.com/news/672924/...

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 guys I think we might have an actual fix for the fucking Gemini pop-ups the setting to control it is buried in your Gmail, not your Google Drive THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE’S HERO

I mentioned yesterday that I started reading Night Watch, but what you may not realize is that this is the culmination of a project over a year in the making. So I get into that a little bit here in my latest post. #discworld

Attention fellow #Discworld readers: I am finally Doing The Thing and reading Night Watch in time for the glorious 25th of May!

Good evening. I am here to remind you that "Prey" is an absolute banger of a movie, and it's still on Disney+. Predator prequel with a badass heroine who succeeds because of her wits, just over 90 minutes long, AND THE DOG DOES NOT DIE. Go watch it.

There is no hell deep enough to contain the people involved with this

I spent some time futzing around with my site and using a new WordPress theme, and I'm finally happy with it. To celebrate, here's a new post recapping part of the trip I took to Iceland last year.

I found out a few months ago that Mrs Dalloway was published 100 years ago this month. I started reading it this morning to celebrate the centenary. Still having trouble adjusting to the swooping discursiveness of it all -- but that's kind of the point, isn't it?

I saw @amalelmohtar.com today during the last stop of her book tour for The River Has Roots, and it was lovely! Here's a write-up of the whole event for those who missed it: booksandtea.ca/2025/05/book...

“Convincing a majority of college students to use ChatGPT to do all their assignments so they develop zero actual marketable skills” does seem like a pretty handy way to set up the kids of the elite, who will presumably be eventually steered away from doing this, for further lifetime advantages

I did some major adulting just now and called both a handyman AND an insurance broker. Please give me some praise and a cookie. (Nothing bad happened to our home; these were just things on my mental to-do list for the day.)

It's amazing what a difference 6 days can make.

I've been remiss in making my #ThreeGoodThings posts over the past few days, so I'm going to clump a lot of random good things into this thread. So please follow along!

Adding to this thread: PBS Kids is incredibly valuable. I grew up with Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Reading Rainbow. My kids had Daniel Tiger, Wild Kratts, Dinosaur Train, Molly of Denali. These shows teach so much in such a wonderful and loving way. Having them free for ALL kids is to important.

I'm currently reading "Careless People", the memoir from that former Facebook exec, and my god, it is infuriating. The author is like a dumb character in a haunted house movie: You just want to grab her by the shoulders and shake her and yell at her to GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE.

I'm getting fidgety, and that's what happens when I get tired. So let's talk about my #ThreeGoodThings for the day and then I can get ready for bed. 1. I went to the garden again this morning and did more weeding. I think that's just what I need to focus on for the next week or so.

"do you have food safety tips" yes as a matter of fact I do I think the people should elect representatives who appoint experts to keep food safe theres a tip for you

Hey, it's Wednesday and now I'm going to tell you #ThreeGoodThings that happened to me today. 1. On my walk to the office this morning, I saw a magnolia tree in bloom. Magnolia blossoms are fleeting, so I took a detour to admire them. I silently said "thank you" to the tree for existing.

It's 9 pm. Time to reinforce this stupid wholesome habit for my stupid mental health and tell you about #ThreeGoodThings that happened to me today. 1. I had a physiotherapy appointment for my shoulder this morning before work. It hurts like fuck, but I need to unlearn years of bad ergonomic habits.

I know this is going to be lost in the avalanche of Canadian election news, but let me tell you about my #ThreeGoodThings for today: 1. My hold on "Careless People" came in from the library.

With all sincerity, Elections Canada is a national treasure. - Voting typically takes less than 15 minutes - We make it easy for citizens to vote, without cumbersome registration hurdles - We have every reason to trust that ballots will be counted fairly, and results reported swiftly

People have talked about how Bruce Fanjoy and his team of volunteers have made this real race here in Carleton by walking and knocking on doors, but I think that is even more impressive when you realize that Carleton is an ENORMOUS mostly rural riding that wraps around much of urban/surburban Ottawa
