And, if you still believe that Tokyo’s foreign policy is only defined by strict pacifism and “historical issues” with neighbors, it is time to re-evaluate. Japan is evolving in a way that presents many opportunities for the US and our alliances, economy, and technological leadership.

Trade is the immediate issue, but I think this betrays that Trump is happy to focus on trade and slowly distance the US from Taiwan, and potentially other Allies in the region. In the long term, not sure if instances like this help DoD/DoS in trying to team build in Asia…departmental silos

This row may prove to be a significant event in the gradual exposure of Trump’s arbitrary, capricious, and self-serving approach to governing. Musk finally realized, first,Trump’s complete lack of principles and utter self-absorption; and, second, that Trump no longer needs him for political points.

A lot of parallels with the first few decades of CCP rule in China as specialists and intellectuals were suppressed in favor of ideological conformity…”Red” vs “Expert.” Needless to say, 1949-1978 was an extremely chaotic and destructive period for the Chinese people…I hope we are taking notes

More substantively, I am happy that Beijing and Washington look to be talking and finding a way forward at the moment. However, I continue to struggle to see the point of all the ruckus of the past 3 months.

Senator Ernst’s tenor may also reflect the trend toward confrontational, uncompromising, and “harsh” rhetoric embodied by this Administration. “Trump’s” Republican Party, so far, has been rewarded for obstinance above all else.

“Upon request and recommendation of many people”?? Really!? Another subtle accountability dodge. Oh, and, who? This is JV leadership, period.

Our military isn’t a parade military, which takes significant preparation and rehearsal at skills that don’t really translate into a modern battlefield. SecDef talks about his relentless effort to focus on building lethality…this is definitely not that.

It still feels almost unAmerican that so many of our leaders give no credit to Ukraine the underdog for holding off the Russians for years…literally

If the post is real, he must be trolling, right?…right??

Another instance of the President showing that he just doesn’t take his role seriously. He is a showman, trained to manipulate the superficial—nothing deeper. Everything is about the show, the spectacle…not about the facts or the actual people involved

I try to avoid hyperbole, but this is hard to argue with

To his credit, he lasted longer than I thought he would

Actually *governing*, rather than ruling by writ, is hard. Being the most powerful country on Earth is more complex than it seems from a distance.

And, as all of those statements reveal, he takes zero responsibility for any thing

Plus, I don’t think the Trump camp acknowledges the losses as having any costs. Politically, his base loves the appearance of “bullying”…which to them appears more like the actions of an underdog resisting liberal “forces” at every opportunity

The man just doesn’t understand how government and rule of law works. But seriously, he is incredibly transactional and does not have an understanding of the conceptual bases of the authority he wields. He is out of his depth and hopefully the facade is slowly eroding away for supporters. Truly sad.
