Do people really believe the things he says? I appreciate the confidence in the military, but the ridiculousness is just too much. Even if the military was “the strongest ever” (which is just not true), are people really giving him credit for “building” it over 4 months?

Japan continues to be a great Ally. I hope we can shield our bilateral relationship off from too much US domestic political interference. Japan is serious about countering a threat from Beijing that they feel is real…I agree.

this is a huge part of it; one way I have been putting it is that Trumpism is about the valorization of status based on dominance over status based on prestige (i.e., prestige in the sense of status earned from excellence or contribution to the social whole)

From Trump on his call with Xi: “The conversation was focused almost entirely on TRADE. Nothing was discussed concerning Russia/Ukraine, or Iran.” Ok, what about a mention of the real elephants in the room, Taiwan or East Asian security?

Trump’s partiality for Putin, and his strongman image, are increasingly unambiguous and disheartening as a proud America: "’Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,’ Trump said.” He is effectively condoning continued Russian strikes.

DEAN: What's the tariff on bananas? LUTNICK: Generally 10% DEAN: Walmart has already increased the cost of bananas by 8% LUTNICK: If you build in America, there is no tariff DEAN: We cannot build bananas in America

Reviewing the PRC readout of the Trump-Xi call, it is interesting that Beijing made sure to insert “As suggested by the US side” (根据美方提议,两国经贸牵头人在日内瓦举行会谈) to the comment highlighting high-level meetings…surely a subtle jab at Trump

"Senior officials at the US Department of Veterans Affairs have ordered that VA physicians and scientists not publish in medical journals or speak with the public without first seeking clearance from political appointees of Donald Trump" www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Overall, I support the urgency of the message and need to build on current momentum. But, the establishment of timelines always strike me as unrealistic. So, now we have 2027 for Taiwan and 2029 for Russia.

This is the future of warfare…and just the tip of the drone iceberg. The US must get serious about how to disrupt and defend against a similar form of attack.

Folks Trump has no authority to fire the National Portrait Gallery director and no one need report it as if he does

Donald Trump Saturday evening reposted an online message from someone claiming that former President Joe Biden was "executed in 2020" and replaced by a clone.

This is another sign of Trump’s inability to produce evidence of his new pet conspiracy theory about huge masses of “white farmers” being killed in racial pogroms. https://trib.al/O3vEXtf

Alone, such an incident may not be that meaningful. However, in the context of this Administration, filled by officials who are out of their depth and led by a destabilizing, capricious President, it is highly revealing of the internal tumult within the White House…cracks are starting to show

I don't think anyone outside of universities, pharma and biotech, independent research institutions have any idea of what is happening right now. If you haven't sounded the alarm among your friends, family and colleagues, now is the time to do it.

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd. It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

We definitely need more of this—Japan is essential to our goals in East Asia

🇨🇳🇷🇺🇪🇺🇺🇦 Europe claims that China has reduced supplies of certain drone components to Western buyers, but is increasing supplies to Russia. Official Beijing says it controls exports of dual-use goods and rejects "baseless accusations."

Elon Musk managed to utterly fail to meet the goals of DOGE, while also destroying critical programs that help keep people healthy, safe, and secure.

If approved, relocating forces from Korea to Guam is ill-informed and puts forces out of position and isolated. Keeping them in Korea builds strategic flexibility and helps overcome the tyranny of distance in East Asia—perhaps the single most challenging aspect of that operational environment

And so it begins…at least Japan is a good ally

Notably: The Chrisleys were indicted by a federal grand jury in 2019, during the first Trump administration. The Trump-nominated U.S. attorney was BJay Pak. In Jan. 2021, Pak was forced to resign after Trump became convinced he wasn’t doing enough to investigate purported election fraud in GA.

MORAN: In our country even bad guys get due process right? TRUMP: Well they get a process where we have to get them out

Leavitt: "Electricians, plumbers -- we need more of those in our country, and less LGBTQ graduate majors from Harvard University. And that's what this administration's position is."

BREAKING #WITAOD NEWS: Judge Chutkan DENIES the government's motion to dismiss in State of New Mexico v. Musk. The suit alleges that Musk, as the leader of DOGE, exercises unchecked power in violation of the Appointments Clause of the Constitution. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

Old becomes new again. Although we hear about it less in the American media today, territorial disputes in East Asia remain flash points. The Senkakus are a big example… defending them remains very important to Tokyo and the deepening US-Japan Alliance. Adversaries exploit our domestic distractions.

While hardly unique, ROK politics may provide a good comparative case for the US. Seoul’s front runner is a divisive, “outsider” candidate known for hyperbole and false statements; he survived attempted assassination, and is a convicted felon benefitting from a domestic political crisis
