It's surprisingly good! I have some serious reservations, of course, but it manages to thread an interesting needle. I think my biggest concern is the overload of keywords it presents. But I'm having a good time with it.

Interesting, I didn't even know there was an Elden Ring BG.

I need to play more than the once. It was fumbling, which is to be expected.

I've been really curious about SETI.

Nice! It's definitely a peculiar one. For what it's worth, I've been skeptical of many DVC titles until I actually played them. Especially Here Lies. I had no idea what to expect there.

Me too. And I do think this is the superior game in a number of ways.
The only hangup might be playtime, albeit conditionally. I introduced it to two players who hadn't played Hadrian's Wall. It took three hours to finish. They were totally deer-in-headlights about everything.

I'm not wholly in love with the history, which falls prey to some Middle Ages myths. But, honestly, whatever. It's fine. The gameplay is so sublime that I'm not going to whine about boiling oil. (Much.)

I'm liking it a lot! I agree with your thoughts — it's a real smack in the head if you haven't played Hadrian's Wall. But it's also less victim to build orders, a bit more playful and open, and the "tower defense" portion is sooooo smart.

Yeah, the notches are a bit obnoxious. I think it's one of those games you need to surrender to. Just lean back, don't rush it, luxuriate in the way everything moves and interacts.

So good.
Years ago, I had a fantasy version of Pixel Tactics that was basically a roaming RPG, collecting new and better fighters to add to your squad. A framework for the battles against AI mobs. Like an autobattler, but with that system.
It's a good game that gets me thinking like that.

I agree -- the "it doesn't end" complaint makes very little sense.

Thing Thing is a raucous party game about making categories. It's probably the first Jasper Beatrix title that I can think of another title I would outright rather play, Peter Hayward's Things in Rings. But we've had a nice time with it.

They're both pretty good! Skara Brae feels like a fluffier Greenland, all gains no pains. Shackleton Base is tight. I've enjoyed every play so far.
