Because (thankfully), jaywalking isn’t a thing in Britain.
It’s jaw-dropping to explore how it became a thing elsewhere, and what it teaches us about lobbying, public space, and the power of narrative.
“Jaywalker” was coined in the 1920s by the US motor industry.

That great quote from “The Sun”(!) superimposed on the commemorative EEC 50p was true in 1973, 1975, certainly 2016, and of course still now:
“When the world says Britain hasn't a snowball in hell's chance of going it alone, is that the time to say NO?”

(Notwithstanding that most so-called “UK” media mostly only covers England and their political and general news coverage of the other 3 nations and our governments is just as poor as their Europe/EU coverage ever was… 😢)

Something all UK news media could do to help, and really should have done from the day they created their websites, is make “Europe” a •top level• news category heading, and not bury it two clicks deep under “World”, and give EU political news similar priority to UK + home nations govts reporting.

No it blinking wasn’t…
(I’d maybe accept Firefox 3, before they fell into the hyperactive release sinkhole… 😵💫)

On Trade, we can't forget Brexit costs Scottish businesses billions. Whereas a full return to the single market would boost GDP by around 4% and give access to a market of nearly 500 million people

I agree that the other flavours are underwhelming, but if they wanted to revamp the lineup with some new flavours, “Paprika” and “Dill” (those are two separate flavours, both fairly uncommon and sadly under-appreciated in the UK) would certainly get my votes! 🇩🇪🇸🇪

Knowing that #IrnBru advertising is often a bit risqué, I’m half wondering whether there is also a “Cream of Haggis” special edition, but if there is, I might just give that one a miss (you know what I mean)… 😳

Another day, another brunch, another #IrnBru “legend edition”. Today it’s the #unicorn, the national animal of #Scotland, and #UnicornTears flavour (some kind of berry flavour, possibly raspberry). Hopefully no unicorns were harmed or exploited in its production? #Slurm

Indeed: you spotted my slight hand-waviness in stretching “state managed” perhaps a little too far! It’s certainly a far better setup than the profiteering and under-investing purely private model, though.

I guess you mean England: the rest of us in the other 3 countries of the UK have state owned or state managed water services…

And we in the other UK nations shouldn’t be complacent either, even though our own govts are at least trying to improve things.) 3/3

(Some of that vote will sadly be genuine nastiness, but a lot will also be (reasonably understandable, but wrongly targeted) exasperation that it is sadly too long since there was a UK-federal/govt-for-England that had really done much to improve the standard of living, for far too many people. 2/3

Knowing how #Slurm is made (a •very• carefully guarded trade secret, until exposed by the Planet Express crew), I’m just hoping that there’s not a particularly dark side to the production process (well, apart from the aspartame and the dodgy artificial colourings associated with hyperactivity…) 😒
