"Elite" is doing some heavy lifting there, to be fair. Wealthy, for sure, and obscenely so in many cases, but not sure they would rank highly by many other measures.

This type of survey always fascinates me - it is saying that 3% of Americans questioned were not aware of Trump ... aside from the overwhelming feeling of peace and being at one with the world that such a lack of awareness must engender, it's a surprising statistic ...

It's a tragedy that non-existent "crises" - immigrants, trade, science, education, trans people, whatever - consume so much political/media bandwidth, yet we need houses, jobs, doctors, and fewer potholes, really - it's that simple.

Weirdly, the phrase "high on their own supply" has cropped up three times in various threads I have seen in the last 24 hours!
It seems to be a common problem at the moment ...

In other words, dumb it down so that you don't offend the perpetually offended - absurd idea. The way to deal with people who can't handle the world is to help them to understand it, not pander to their inabilities.

He might be guilty of exaggerating the mental capacity of either Miller or Trump by assuming that they derive "spiritual nourishment" from anything.
Look at their eyes - there is nothing in there, spiritual or otherwise. They are simply incomplete people.

The phrase "serious people" is in my head a lot lately - I am as facetious and lightweight as the next person, probably more so, but then I am not running a country, nor looking to do so.
We need serious people, not simpletons and infantile idiots.

Of course, but I am referring to the idiotic illogicality of trying to legislate against doing that ... obviously many will continue to use appropriate facilities despite any ruling.

Unfortunately, if you are a trans woman, you have to walk almost all the way into the gents before you get to the disabled/unisex toilet, or whatever you want to call it.
Although disabilities can be invisible, trans women may well feel "outed" by having to do that.

Also, they are running out of anything that can sensibly be framed as a "legitimate concern" so the illogicality, absurdity, impracticality, and sheer bigotry of the whole thing is in plain sight.

Had "neither" been an option, I suspect the emphasis would have been somewhat different.

On reading Yuseless's post, my first thought (even without knowing much more than he does about public sector recruitment) was "that sounds unlikely".
You'd think someone would have questioned it ... it's really basic stuff.

Hang on to that receipt - it seems a bold assertion. Whether or not it ages well, we will hopefully find out at some point ...

Bit odd - I see what you mean, but I follow Byline Times here (and am a subscriber) and can see their feed perfectly well, so not sure why this link is hidden here, if it's the same one ...

You can if you can argue successfully that he is a threat to the safety of staff or customers. Borderline, perhaps, but being a twat isn't a protected characteristic, so the ability for businesses to refuse service is pretty wide-ranging outside of that. 😊

I would have thought chucking detritus like him back onto the pavement was your duty as a proud Brit and a patriot, to be fair ... we wouldn't want the world to think that he was viewed positively in the country.

Correction - this one has you walking (as a woman) almost all the way into the gents before you can get to it, hence outing you.
The WHS one was Chieveley, in the other direction!
comment in response to

This may be the one where you have to go to WH Smith and ask for a key to access the "gender-neutral" loo, thereby "outing" yourself ... we wrote and complained.

It's impossible to justify the stance as anything other than bigotry, and they are now running out of "legitimate concerns".
There is zero evidence that trans people are greater danger to society than any other human being - in fact, the opposite, given what they have to put up with.

Yes, I appreciate that, but Corbyn was ejected from the Parliamentary Labour Party, which is distinct from the Labour Party, although he may well have been thrown out of that as well - I haven't bothered to look.
I don't think Truss's party membership or otherwise is comparable.
comment in response to
post
To be fair, though, Truss is no longer an MP so can't be "thrown out" in the same way that Corbyn was, so the standout point here is that Badenoch allowed a stupid question from an interviewer to make her look even more inept and stupid herself, which is quite an achievement ...

I think the right to education is considered an optional extra by many of these people. Certainly they have chosen to opt out.

It seems that they have believed their own hype that being trans is as superficial as dying your hair, or varnishing your nails, and is something that can just be changed and slipped on and off at will.
What a bunch of idiots - and it shows now more than ever.

Trans people were lied to??
Using services based on “self ID” (the gender role in which they present) regardless of GRC is right there in the EHRC’s 2011 Code of Practice.
It’s in the EHRC’s own 2022 guidance.
The Labour Gov recognised this too a matter of months ago.
This is horrific gaslighting.

It's important to consider that we're not talking about two equal but opposing viewpoints here. We're talking about a side which wants everyone to have a fair go at life, compared with a side who wants half of society to stop existing.
Being a bit rude in the face of that seems not unreasonable.

To be fair to her, there is a lot "broken" about the system, but sadly those bits are not the bits that she thinks they are, and neither are her supposed solutions workable, which might account for why she is the only person, by her own admission, to go down that route ...

MAGA hates everything - that's the very core of the belief system, same as with Reform etc here. Relentless negativity, resentment, bitterness, jealousy, hatred, and selfishness are the essential qualities needed to support this type of right-wing mentality, along with sheer ignorance.

Quite right - the platforming of garbage as serious opinion in the name of balance has done enormous damage, and is partly why clowns like Goodwin have any profile at all.
Too many media outlets are just looking for clickbait.

Goodwin must be a case study of some sort. I recall reading some stuff of his years ago that had some elements of sense scattered throughout.
Whatever has happened to him, it's destroyed any mental acuity he may once have had.

By her own admission, even her own children think she's an idiot ... I suspect that when she told that story she thought it would be seen as a self-deprecating joke, but it turns out that she is actually one of those herself ...

Plus many illegal immigrants are enabled by "locals" who give them work, accommodation, and so on, while keeping them off the books - not only an immigration issue, but the enablers are evading tax, regulation, employment responsibilities, and all the rest of it. Not exactly patriots 😊

Unfortunately, Mullin is also wrong - this is a claim that has been circulated before, and there is no evidence that the US was No 1 in 1979, and equally none that shows a specific decline since, although the US has scored poorly especially for maths in a number of studies since the 1960s.

To be serious, though, he seems to be so well trained and prepared for all the stunts that he does that the degree of risk is perhaps not as high as one might think - as the man himself said, "Don't be careful, be competent"
