Seen today in the Lake District, Cumbria. Red Admiral butterfly, taken on my Google Pixel 7

1. Infuriatingly, here in the UK, the government still seems to believe that the only way of introducing trees is to plant them (see, for example, the current Land Use Framework consultation). News just in: trees can self-seed, which could be why they've survived for 360m years. 🧵

Just thought I'd share a photo of something I saw on the canal this morning whilst I was walking my dog. It's only the second one I've seen all year. There used to be hundreds of them. #kingfisher

The history of the Elgin marbles has many parallels with the origin of the monarchy. Should we also return the king and all his hangers on to France or Germany, or wherever the f*** they come from? www.bbc.co.uk/news/enterta...

Massive away win for the little fella.

Joe Biden was always going to pardon his convict son, he just wasn't going to do it, or even say he was going to do it, in the run up to a presidential election. This is a complete non-story, used to deflect us away from the real story of how Trump is going to trash the planet.

1. The one benefit of Brexit was a new farm subsidy system, that would pay for public goods such as ecological restoration. But now the government has frozen the new grants, while swiftly cutting off the old ones, leaving farmers high and dry. It's deeply unfair and highly destructive. 🧵

Justice, 5x as long for stealing 30,000,000x less. But he aggravated his sentence by being homeless and surrendering himself. While the other guy was a billionaire, and we can't be putting people like that in jail, because they are us. Or them as the case may be.

Looks like no agreement at Cop29. The rich countries are abdicating their responsibility to the nations they have exploited and ravished to get their hands on their resources. And now we're abandoning them. That's what you get if you vote for a capitalist/neoliberal govt. We're all to blame!

King Charles inherited £650m tax free, gets £125m a year tax free from the tax payer and has an estate worth £22bn that’s never taxed. But he still needed a 45% pay rise. Like if he needs a pay cut. RP if you want the Monarchy gone. #AbolishTheMonarchy
