I think that strategy wasn’t chosen because they had faith that truth would win out eventually. Stated differently, they didn’t appreciate the staying power of false belief when there is 24/7 technology for reinforcing that belief.

That is internet bubble hatred between the factions. Nothing more. Holding a coalition together based on anything other than hatred of an enemy is very difficult in the internet age.

Too many reporters look online to understand and frame complex policy problems — and for the experts to help them do it. That world has tended to skew young and male. Consequently, they miss rich academic literatures like ones found in the notes to the passages above.
