Today on Grading for Growth: Whoops! Rookie mistakes with alternative grading.

Alternative graders! I'm working on a blog post about "rookie mistakes" -- the things that new alt. graders most commonly do that cause them trouble. My list so far: - Unlimited reassessments - Too many standards - Super-duper complex system What would you add?

Do you have something to say about alternative grading? We're looking for guest posters on Grading for Growth!

I swear I saw a paper titled "Do all the things" (or something similar), maybe in @readprimus.bsky.social, about a class being taught with a lot of different innovative aspects. Now I can't find any reference. Does anybody remember this?

Today on Grading for Growth, I reflect on using an "exemplary" mark to encourage excellent work... and how it can sometimes cause more trouble than it's worth.

I wrote a guest post on The Grading for Growth about my experience implementing alternative grading practices in a #researchmethods course as a graduate student. Check it out! Thanks to @dccmath.bsky.social and @roberttalbert.bsky.social for the opportunity to share this work.

Today on Grading for Growth: Alternative grading as a graduate student! Carly Gray tells us how it can be done.

The idea of education is to help people learn. The idea that education is about separating wheat from chaff is held by a distressing number of elitists from across the political spectrum. It's a stupid and toxic idea that should be rejected at every opportunity.

So, what are you doing about *gestures* all this that actually FEELS meaningful? Genuine question. I need ideas. What I'm doing increasingly feels like it doesn't matter -- calling congresscritters (Peters and Slotkin are my Senators, heaven help us) and writing letters especially.

Amidst the chaos, I completely forgot to link to yesterday's blog post. Please enjoy one week's worth of my uncensored thoughts about grading: gradingforgrowth.com/p/davids-gra...

Today's Grading for Growth guest post: Michael D. Johnson writes about student self-assessment in a digital design and production class.

Today at Grading For Growth: How often is often enough, when it comes to assessing students - especially in an alternative grading system with reattempts? I break down the issues with both over- and under-assessment and give some guidelines for finding the right balance. gradingforgrowth.com...
