At the very least, making a Bluesky option present and available, and having Heritage help to lead the way to a shift onto Bluesky would be a step in the right direction.

While perhaps there are some limited grounds for cautious optimism, given Musk's falling out with the U.S. president, it's not entirely clear.
They could make up and then X/Twitter could go even more hard-core as a propaganda device of the U.S. president.

Plus, there's a whole laundry list of other reasons to have reservations about X/Twitter. The Nazi salutes would be one that stands out. Albeit the rigged algorithms would stand out too.

To my knowledge, Bluesky CEO Jay Graber has never made a comment along the lines of "Canada is not a real country."
Moreover, of the 86 K followers that the main Canadian Heritage acct has via X/Twitter, is there any way to know how many of those are merely 'bots'?

With Canada Day coming up shortly, I can't help but think that it wouldn't be overly patriotic to share a Canada Day tweet/X-post after Elon Musk's "Canada is not a real country" comment on Feb 24th.

This will be the 1st Canada Day since Elon Musk made such a post.

Given that you're now the MP, would it be possible for you to update your Bsky profile/bio?
Just click on 'Profile' along the left-hand side and then 'Editor profile' near the top from there to do so.

I wouldn't foresee too many Canadians seeking less-staffed ERs with longer waits. Though I obviously can't speak for everyone.
comment in response to

On the other hand, I don't think there are many Canadians champing at the bit to have fewer doctors in their local emergency rooms. I don't think we'd be likely to hear comments like: 'Please make that guy not work at the ER. We have just too ER doctors. I really want to wait longer in the ER.'

In thinking things over a little, I would have to think that many Canadians might have issues with politicians taking in two politician-based salaries -- for being both a provincial politician and a municipal councillor.

I would hope that you still get the chance to sleep a little.
In any case, once again, thank you for taking the time to reply!! :)

If you want to change the content of your Bsky bio, just click on 'Profile' along the left-hand side. From there, near the top of the screen, there is an 'Edit profile' option.
For an ER doctor, you may be able to change the content of your bio in about one minute or less.:)

Thank you very much for taking the time out of your super-busy day to reply.
Also, you're MP'ing AND you're practicing medicine??! As an ER physician??! That sounds crazy, crazy busy!

Given the outcome of the riding that Jonathan Rowe won, I take it that it was a 4-3 Liberal/CPC split, rather than a 5-2 divide for the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador.

It appears that the announcement about the winner of the judicial recount, and hence the winner of the seat, happened some weeks after the election.

Actually, as it turns out, the winner of the Terra Nova - The Peninsulas riding turned out to be Jonathan Rowe (CPC). Not Anthony Germain for the Liberals.

Given the changes in the immigration minister position, this leaves the questions: Did @marcmillermp.bsky.social issue an exception for the US president? Or did @rachelbendayan.bsky.social issue an exception for him?
Or would it be up to Hon. Metlege Diab to do so?
comment in response to

However, subsequent to the election, the cabinet position was shuffled over to The Honourable Lena Metlege Diab.

(Ms. Metlege Diab does not appear to have a Bluesky acct.)

Hi @jennykwan.bsky.social Your post from March 13th raises some serious concerns. Granted, that was 2 immigration ministers ago.
A few days after your post, the cabinet position was taken over by @rachelbendayan.bsky.social

Basically, the links were essentially broken. Hopefully, they have gotten over most of that.
Albeit, if the Cons get back into power, what could happen would be merging the two into one again. That could create further website mishaps.
But the Libs are in, at least for the moment.
comment in response to

curiously, one of the side effects of separating the prior ministry into two -- Crown-Indigenous Relations and Indigenous Services -- was that many of the links for the old ministry would just redirect to a landing page, which would direct people to one or the other ministry.

No worries.
I think that my memory isn't the best either.

As per the Hon. Mandy Gull-Masty, I wish her the best of luck in the new position as well.

Here's a listing from Wikipedia about the Minister of Indigenous Services position.

As per the role of Minister of Indigenous Services, this was a position created by the Trudeau government, in 2017. (Rather than 2015.) The first person to occupy the role was the Hon. Dr. Jane Philpott. She was ultimately one of the two women bounced from caucus by Trudeau in 2019.

Also, when there was a shuffle under PM Carney, the Hon. Arif Virani was shuffled out of not just the role of Min of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, but also bounced from cabinet entirely.
comment in response to

As things were, when there was a shuffle in cabinet in a way that Wilson-Raybould's successor, the Hon. David Lametti, was out of the role, he was bounced entirely from cabinet.
comment in response to
post
If I recall correctly, Wilson-Raybould didn't want a role in which she would be administering and overseeing the implementation of the Indian Act.
So she asked for a different portfolio instead, and got it. Granted, there were serious questions about her being bumped from justice.
comment in response to
post
If I recall correctly, she may have been offered a position relating to Indigenous people, but turned it down. Trudeau then appointed her as Minister of Veterans Affairs instead.
Trudeau's aide, Gerry Buttz, had indicated that he would have given her a take-it-or-leave-it offer.

Granted, as a settler, I'm not sure if I would be the best say stuff here. But as I recall, Hon. Jody Wilson-Raybould was in cabinet as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. She was then shuffled over to Minister of Veterans Affairs and Assoc Minister of National Defence.

If @stevenguilbeault.bsky.social were to critique Elon Musk in the process of an X/Twitter-to-Bluesky swap, that might help further promote a new Bluesky acct. If the Hon. Steven Guilbeault were committed to the idea of getting Canadian Heritage onto Bluesky, I think that it could happen fast.
comment in response to

I'm wondering if a number of federal gov't depts would be willing to start up Bluesky presences, but just don't want to be the first. If Heritage lays out a path and is seen by others as it shifts onto Bluesky, then others may feel more comfortable following in the footsteps of Heritage.
comment in response to

Plus, if @stevenguilbeault.bsky.social were to help navigate the shift and promote a new Bluesky acct for the Dept of Cdn Heritage, and if Porto could help port content over, that could really help to entice other depts.
comment in response to

Nevertheless, I think that the Department of Canadian Heritage can help lead the way and be an early adopter of Bluesky.

In terms of leading the way, the Dept of Cdn Heritage would not be the first federal gov't dept to get onto Bluesky.
The Bank of Canada is already on Bluesky:

The Dept of Cdn Heritage has a whopping 13.2 K posts via X/Twitter. One might hope that a Heritage Bluesky acct could get up and running and get at least a couple of dozen posts.
Albeit, if someone at Heritage can get Porto to work, there could be a lot more than a couple dozen posts via Bsky.
comment in response to

I would hope that @stevenguilbeault.bsky.social , @avankoeverden.bsky.social and @nathalieprovost.bsky.social would be aware of Porto, including how it might be used to transfer over portions of the Heritage X/Twitter acct over to Bluesky.
comment in response to

To make for a smoother transition, it might be possible to take original tweets from X/Twitter, back them up and then convert them over to Bluesky posts using a Google Chrome extension called 'Porto.'
