There's a mirror universe with a box containing all the other socks.

TBH I'm only really interested in owls, so I couldn't really say.

I don't know that 'one guy reckons' is actual evidence. Why bother writing a story about it, however rich they might be? A decent article would look for actual evidence.

Oops, the Bluesky generated URL doesn't seem to work, though the text one in the skeet does. Here is the URL if you have trouble:

That's odd. The first URL seems to work, but the Bluesky generated URL is broken. Bother.

Me too. We'd love to know where they go.

I heard the EU is doing that for some officials. But I can't imagine burner phones will last before they are regarded as suspicious in themselves. A burner phone & laptop I wont use again, thousands lost on flights if turned back, & the lost time & potential detention, for a government's madness.

I have many academic friends there, so this is far from abstract for me and them. Dark times indeed.

I was once 2hrs late for dinner at a friend's as what we hadn't taken into account in getting there was that Pope John Paul II was holding a practice in St Peter's Square for a festival. As we tried to cross, many buses on our planned trip cancelled, I saw him from 200m and felt very blessed 😉

They're great. And I like John Muir Laws a lot. One of his books is where I started to draw and learned that every drawing is practice for the next.

It's a lot of fun, I'd recommend it 🙂

Interesting. I'd heard they'd used one once, but didn't know where it was.

Yes, I remember Flaco, it was very sad.

No worries. Thanks for extracting a nice summary.

In the case of Powerful Owls it's probably Possums that they are getting the poison through as they mostly eat arboreal mammals.

I'm guessing it's not cutting medical care for the most vulnerable to give big tax cuts to the rich that is upsetting him.

Powerful Owls roost/sleep in trees during the day. The females only use hollows during nesting, but the males guard the nest hollow from a nearby tree.

Thank you. I'm not really your classic birder who drives 100km to see some rare bird that has shown up, though I do that occasionally. I like to get to know them as individuals, which they are, often over a period of many years. I get to learn much more about them, and notice more about their lives.

Thanks, Dave. It's always a good day when you see a Eastern Yellow.

Since the 1950s when later Nobel winner James Buchanan saw a core "problem" in democracy being the many wanting to "force" the few to pay tax there has been a very well funded program to undermine it. Reading 2017s Democracy in Chains by Nancy MacLean made sense of much of the current madness for me

You should! They regularly run the workshops. And the refreshments and food by Chris' mother are very nice 🙂

It's disheartening. Across SE Asia, many many government and cabinet members have been educated at Australian universities. This is inestimably valuable in building relations, security, & trade between our countries. And now the Labor government is putting caps on foreign students & high visa fees.

You might like @lucyparkerpaul.bsky.social's account as well. She's also an owlcaholic, and we often go owl detecting together.

Fantastic! It's always a huge bit of luck to find and see a POwl. Seeing my first one one was one of the most exciting moments of my life. Be sure and keep the location secret though, it can sometimes go badly for the Powls if a pair becomes "famous", especially since it's now breeding season.

Carl T. Bergstrom has some advice on how and why you might want to make friends with a corvid.

Named because it woofs a bit like a dog. Australian names are very literal.

TBH when we're monitoring sites for the Powerful Owl Project, we are very careful to keep a distance, and to keep in cover. And as you say, occasionally the young ones will show an interest, in which case we're immediately out of there. I wouldn't really wear a fluffy pom 😀
