And they can make sure that you are looking at the correct type of ND for your symptoms and also refer you to resources and/or clinicians best suited to help, whether it’s talk therapy, medication, other types of therapy, etc.

A psychiatrist who specializes in these conditions can do a full observational & interview eval, but also will make sure there isn’t any other medical reason for your symptoms. (Ex. sensory sensitivity can be caused by neurological changes, endocrine issues can cause meltdowns, etc.)

I think a lot of mis-/disinfo has circulated in the last few years and, while it has helped a TON of people who otherwise wouldn’t have to get the right dx, others have gotten the *wrong* care because of it.

Totally. I figured those were their words, but felt like it was worth flagging. There are a TON of types of less-discussed forms of ND, too (plus, a LOT of ADHD resembles autism & vice versa, esp. for AFAB folks). If you can, your best bet is to talk to a specialist.

b/w autism and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.
Me, upon this discovery: VINDICATION!!!
(It’s always nice when science backs up your VERY niche theory around correlation.)

So, weird, related thing—a TON of folks I’ve know with EDS had eating disorders at some point. I always thought the number seemed disproportionately high. They’ve recently found an *astonishingly* high rate of ED patients (>30%) are actually autistic, and also are finding a genetic correlation

& perpetuates flawed stereotypes and myths about what autism actually is and looks like. (This was one of *many* reasons the old Asperger’s Syndrome vs. autism delineation was eliminated. It’s all autism, not kinda weird people/‘mild’ autism” vs. “real” autism, the way it used to be framed.)

Bc, especially with spectrum disorders, “a little bit” (or functional labels) is not helpful and often actually HARMFUL bc it minimizes symptom variety and impact for some low support needs folks while often underestimating the abilities of high support needs folks

Research is finding links b/w things like autism and EDS or ADHD, but distinct criteria still define what delineates an autistic person from a non-autistic person. (This is always a tricky thing, since we know there is diagnostic bias, but it still matters.)

Although self-diagnosis (or self-assessments for referrals) can often be valuable bc of financial barriers and practitioner/historical bias, the diagnostic criteria still do matter.

Very gently, the idea of being “a little bit” autistic is often still linked to outdated ideas about the “good” kind of autism or functioning labels.

100%. I also think it’s important to remind people there are a LOT of ways to protest, some of which can be done remotely, at organizing hubs, etc.
If you can’t go in person for any reason, including mental or physical health, there are still other ways to be involved that are just as necessary!

Organizers in LA are raising money to do tamale buyouts from local tamale vendors who are unable to safely vend on the street due to ICE kidnapping vendors. The tamales will be distributed to unhoused neighbors. Please consider donating — I personally vouch for this one: venmo.com?txn=pay&audi...

I’ve been working until 4 am every night since mid-last week trying to make a deadline that is slipping further and further away. And then *gestures*.
I’m doing this shit on, like, 3 hours of sleep a night and it feels like a terrible fever dream.

What he says on that point is SO interesting. I was absolutely riveted by the decision. Which is a weird thing to say about a judgement document, but…welcome to 2025, I guess?

Yeah, the whole decision really does read like he’s taking them back to Law 101. A lot of plain terms meaning and explaining foundational framing.

This is FASCINATING. Discussion of 3A. He also goes through multiple contemporaneous definitions of “rebellion” to clarify common usage and why the protests don’t meet the bar.

The administration has already appealed the decision to the 9th Circuit. This could be at the Supreme Court by tomorrow, at this rate. www.politico.com/news/2025/06...

Does that make it OK? Not in the least.
People fuck up, they make bad choices or different choices.
Does it mean they deserve extraordinary suffering, generational trauma, lack of educational access, deprivation, or a death sentence?
In my opinion, absolutely not.
I hate all of this.

I know people say “they chose/voted for this!”
I worked in game shows/unscripted TV. People had NO CLUE of the ramifications of doing a GAME SHOW. I can’t imagine many people truly understand the impact of filling in a bubble once every few years when norms held.
