Everything you've worked so hard for has led to this moment~

Personally I'm amused this popped up (again) because influencer types misinterpreted a second-hand account of a shareholder question through a language barrier, which is like three other annoying issues (clout-chasing accounts, inability to parse IR topics, improper language translation).

Possibly, I tend to stick to the plain text versus logo when there are discrepancies.

I only played it for the first time like 2 years ago (having played Shadow Hearts a looong time ago) and I really enjoyed it. It's very unique! More games should be in single small setting.

Yeah like we don't want to be arbiters of the genre or anything but your taste should be at least a little bit eclectic.

Sometimes we get pitches for RPG Site. "I want to be a contributor! I love Final Fantasy and Persona." We don't take those very seriously. It's just too narrow a perspective.
Similarly, most RPG Site staffers play/discuss both JRPGs and WRPGs in tandem.

Right. We'll get an official English summary of this Q&A soon enough, and Square Enix's response is extremely likely to be a boilerplate noncommital corporate acknowledgment of the question.

Somewhat related, I was at a gamescom LA event last year and another games writer commented 'Square Enix can't *only* rely on Final Fantasy!' as if the many, many other games Square has released are invisible.

Yeah I agree for sure.

It is "self-published" but to call it an indie kind of feels a bit dismissive to Level-5 and insulting to real indies.

I literally said this yesterday - a summary of the shareholder Q&A is going to be posted on the IR site next week. Likely in English! Just wait! Instead, the professional fans are posting second-hand accounts through a language barrier for clout.

Honestly 'be a little bit annoying' is one of my life principles in general. 'Squeaky wheel gets the grease' and all that.

Did you skip the original game? That's fun and interesting if so! (I've never played a Kojima game.)

I also see people write stuff like "this episode is not cannon"

I figure I'll have a ~30 minute period of 'how do I play this again?' at the start, lol

I remember when this was announced, it was a silly 'Pinocchio Souls' from the team only known for Bless Unleashed, which didn't offer a lot of confidence. But reception for Lies of P was strong, and DLC seems even stronger.
I haven't gotten around tot he DLC yet, sounds like I should do that~

21.) Bioshock
Decided to finally take a weekend to play this. It's mostly what I expected, except a bit faster (movement, enemies, and such). I appreciate that the only character that garners any sympathy at all is the female scientist. The camera mechanic is pretty tedious. (yes I knew the twist)

20.) Final Fantasy XVI
I'm years late, so my expectations were well calibrated. As an RPG-head, this one felt mechanically thin with various systems stapled on. Story is kinda whatever, moment-to-moment combat is fun! The kaiju Eikon QTE stuff really doesn't do anything for me.

Lol I literally just finished FF16 for the first time and was thinking this too.

Definitely need to consider broad preconceptions/expectations and the array of reviewers for each game, which can be very different between 'known quantities' and 'unknown quantities'

great//timeless pixel art style and palette, good early example of playable hero/anti-hero, Capcom finally turning in a decent localization for the time, 90s-era region changes that are interesting in modern hindsight, Master system is great(?) for minmax stat sickos,

Yeah. Practically every games publisher has touted their current growth strategies focusing on "the strength of their IP". Dive into the whims of fandom and franchises, grow 'universes' of thise franchises, of which hyperfixation on 'canon' is a natural symptom.

There seems to be so much concern about how things fit together, or a place on a timeline, the integrity of the canon, that I feel people aren't even looking at what's in front of them.
I just can't bother with puzzle-box lore discussions. It's not interesting & you're probably missing the point!
