Federal agents used explosives to enter a U.S. citizen’s home and entered — guns drawn — on a baby, a 6-year-old, and their mother. She believes it’s because her boyfriend attended an ICE protest where he accidentally hit a cop car (and was released by cops). www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/h...

James used to post believable bait, SMH. "Nuclear war is winnable!" "Air cavalry is good!" "Taylor Swift will win the defense of Taiwan!" Oh how the mighty have fallen that he's reduced to fhis

After getting blocked the first time, Sen. Mike Lee is revising his land grab plan and trying to sneak it back into the “Big 💩 Bill.” The new proposal would force the sale of up to 1.2 million acres of public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Even if MAGA isn’t in power 3+ years from now, there is almost no way we’ll ever get back anything like NSF. The country will be so gutted and the necessary rebuild so extensive and expensive that it just won’t be a priority. And after a generation, it will be forgotten.

A great loss to paleontology. Bambach‘s work was in many ways foundational.

This is the idealized model of an animal. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like. 🎢⚛️🧪

"All interesting issues in natural history are questions of relative frequency, not single examples. Everything happens once amidst the richness of nature. But when an unanticipated phenomenon occurs again & again–finally turning into an expectation–then theories are overturned." - Stephen Jay Gould

Haven't thought about it in a while but conulariids (i.e., ice cream cone-shaped cnidarians in the fossil record) are thought to have produced pearls in their calcium phosphate "shells" the same way molluscs produce them today and I think that's beautiful

We’re excited to hear from @spissatella.bsky.social later today! 🤩

💯 My home institution tends to have very bimodal undergrads as a function of their college preparedness. Top mode has good grades, good post-college job placement. The ones who move into the top mode from the bottom? Genuinely love what they do and therefore work really hard to keep doing it.

Why am I so unimpressed by these strikes? Israel and the US have failed to target significant elements of Iran's nuclear materials and production infrastructure. RISING LION and MIDNIGHT HAMMER are tactically brilliant, but may turn out to be strategic failures. 🧵 1/17
