Yes, but the point is that the results have been dramatically divergent. We are going to have CL next year and aren’t going to be playing 1 game/week. If Ange can come up with a plan how to cope next year, I would love for him to come back. I just don’t want a repeat of our league form this year.

We are 17th in the league and and our xG differential in league games since the injury crisis has also been bad. Think the objective evidence is clear about our league form.

I love Ange and up to the injury crisis, I thought Spurs were awesome in the league (4th on xG differential) but unlucky. However, I can’t get over what’s happened since then, as they have been awful in the league. Even w/ the injuries, the results are poor and should give everyone pause.

Didn’t they play against Newcastle? Regardless of the numbers from that one, I still think your point is a good one. I’m not concerned that spurs will get outplayed, just worried about the usual random bounces in a cup final.

Last thing, I was curious and looked up the team’s ppda vs Bodø and it was 13.6- goes to your point.

Yep, the club didn’t provide Ange with the squad to implement his system and he made it worse by failing to rotate early in the season.

Think you’ve had a real smart and measured position on Ange. One thing, I recall our press was really good at the beginning of this season before the injury crisis. Seems like Ange’s typical press requires 100% freshness and commitment from players, which is difficult with the fixture calendar

Yeah depressing to say the least. Any chance this story was a paratici plant and that it won’t be happening?

What do you think this means for their analytics department? Significantly less influence?

I hope you’re right.

I don’t know. That could be read differently. I hope I’m wrong, but is there any chance that they are scrapping or scaling back the analytics and sports science dept? That would be a “change” as well…

What happened to the Brunson-KAT pNr? Brunson also getting killed on every possession- refs are terrible

Heard that odobert had a knock. Any word on Spence?

Rick Pitino at the Celtics (obviously he’s a better human being than pitino)? Committed to a certain uptempo philosophy that is very hard to implement due to the league’s grueling schedule? I’m also troubled by that back post issue. Really curious from a tactical standpoint what it is

And honestly it doesn’t matter whether he was lying. I’m generally pro-Ange, but he should acknowledge that a substantial portion of the fanbase THOUGHT he was winding them up, regardless of his actual intent

Wonder what happens the first time a target suffers a catastrophic injury in the last year of his contract

Honest question- what point of dempsey’s career do you think he was best for USMNT?

Tbf, that is a shorter version of my post to you

This week we got to see it for Spurs within the context of the same game twice. It’s just an immediate massive difference with basically every other variable controlled for including the manager.
comment in response to
post
How about some nuance? We just tied xG away to a top half team with our reserves and tied starters.
comment in response to

There is a difference between writing off the league and rotating. I don’t want Ange to write off the league, but I am fine with him heavily rotating for league games. IMO this should be the std procedure for him given the intensity the team plays at

Curious about the x axis. Does the vertical line represent the end of the 23-24 season and start of the current one? If so, seems to strongly support the premise that we were good this year up to the injury crisis. Also, 5 game rolling average seems pretty noisy
comment in response to

@nathanaclark.bsky.social that was a tough listen. Timing isn’t ideal with the last 2 games, but I wish you had pushed back on the idea that AP hasn’t been good for a while. Team was top 4 quality this year before the injury crisis. Listen to the pod for nuance and have found it lacking recently
comment in response to

I’m not so sure. I think if he finishes on a strong run regardless of EL result, the club may bring him back. If they do, there needs to be a serious conversation about how he plans to rotate players better than he did this year.
comment in response to
post
Good on you for the apology. I think it unproductive to talk about Ange’s job right now. The club will let him see out the season. Hopefully, he will have his first choice CBs and a squad capable of rotation for a run of games. We can then have a meaningful conversation about his job status
comment in response to

@dankp.bsky.social the word you were looking for Marcus is “antiquated.” I do think you missed the mark on the AP critique. Clear that he rested Son, kulu, and Spence because they have played a lot of minutes and were on 4 days rest. The 8 day rest after the match was a bit of a red herring.

Huge having impact subs come on. Odobert has occupied defenders and done a good job creating space

He’s also a Kane-like plus finisher!

It’s a bad faith argument. Until VDV and Romero went out in Nov, they were performing at a top 4 level by xG, and better by goal differential. Ange rushed Romero and Vdv back for Chelsea, but it’s nothing compared to the club leaving 2 EL roster spots open and the holes across the roster.

Don’t forget that kulu is a walking zombie at this point. Tbh everyone looks dead on their feet

I feel that it’s hard to make any analysis for outfield players other than they all look ridiculously fatigued. Everyone is really struggling right now.
comment in response to

What was it at halftime? Seemed obvious that spurs tired and first 20 minutes or so of second half they were just holding on. Hopefully as players get their legs back, it should get better

Isnt it also an admission that dragusin doesn’t fit and likely played his last game for spurs?

Long term, I think unless the board are willing to fund a proper squad, they should look to a manager such as Iraola, able to play out of possession for a majority of the game, yet still adopting a high press. Sad to realize this where we are at.
comment in response to
post
But at this pt, the realistic options are: stay with Ange, hire a caretaker mgr, or go with Mason. I’d rather stick w Ange. In all honesty, I have trimmed my expectations. I don’t think the board capable of fielding a proper squad playing the way we want and performing well in 4 competitions.
comment in response to
post
Good point about Nathan, but I think the expectation that spurs will sack Ange and immediately hire McKenna or Iraola is way off the mark. I honestly don’t disagree with you about some of the injury mgmt issues w Ange (vdv + Romero @ Chelsea was an awful decision)…
comment in response to
post
There is no world that the board will ever pay the $ necessary to buy either of those managers out. @windy really surprised at your expectations. I expect a more rationale/nuanced approach from you, which I think you’ve abandoned in these past few months. Think I’m done with the pod

Did he indicate the player’s likely position?
comment in response to

At a minimum, it demonstrates short-sightedness at the board level. Players are assets and to risk an important one in Sarr instead of signing any warm body in the transfer window is the definition of short-term thinking.

Tbf, he had 13 available first-team outfield players. This is almost a university experiment on the impact of fatigue on athletic performance.
comment in response to

To describe this as anything other than a ridiculously fatigued squad is doing the situation a disservice. It’s isn’t enough to say that spurs are losing to a crap squad, but you have to say why
comment in response to
post
Honestly, he’s not of the level of the other outside backs, but he still could eat up some minutes so I’m all for reggy playing. Fatigue is spurs’ worse enemy
comment in response to

Sure, agreed. Just providing context. Lot of big feelings around Spurs right now and fans are a bit sensitive…
comment in response to

Lol, I re-read your original post three times. You are right, it can be read both ways. I think spurs fans are a little sensitive to the Bournemouth injury crisis narrative because it’s used as a cudgel against Spurs. I don’t think you meant it that way, but think that explains the response

I’m the biggest #angein person around, but that athletic article from this morning was grim. I don’t think it all falls on him, but his process was extremely poor in starting Romero and VDV at the Chelsea game.
