Getting in the weeds on #stlcitysc I like sports and jokes. I don’t claim any teams outside STL, most closely follow world soccer (top 5 leagues, MLS, DIII) and NBA. Play FPL, Fantasy🏀, ⚽️🏐irl

Mellberg put the team in a position to win from the start, but the players didn’t score, and then a bad hand played poorly when it came time for subs led to a really frustrating result. Props to the players that got a goal back and the fans that stayed til the end.

Lastly, we saw how poorly Teuchert and Becher did as a partnership against Philly. I would’ve gone with a slight change to the shape, with Becher as an option to throw more forward late (+ Joyner) or spell Teuchert, if needed.

The backline w/ our 3rd, 4th, & 5th CBs needed protection from midfield, even more when Timo came out. We were looking for a winner at home, but Silva in midfield wasn’t it. Would JGR have been that much worse? He at least fits the profile needed, though the same can be said for Reid at LWB.

Without seeing training this past week, Reid would’ve been my last choice. He didn’t look himself Sunday, which isn’t a shock given he’s working back from a broken foot. I think (again, hindsight) bringing on Zalinsky and adjusting would’ve been better. Some examples of what it could’ve looked like.

Olof Mellberg didn’t have a very good hand to play from. Joyner went 90’ Weds. and was clearly gassed, Zalinsky went 74’ and had to come off w cramp. JGR (77’) and Reid (45’) got their first mins of the season Sunday for CITY2. Then Becher, Silva, Pompeu. One would think all could play 20 minutes.

We’ve had multiple games where we aren’t able to fill out the matchday roster of 20. This can’t all be bad luck. @tomtimm.bsky.social @mattbakerstl.bsky.social @hornekerjustin.bsky.social @jensiessonair.bsky.social @jxclem.bsky.social

Timo/Yaro/Hiebert also sort of take your pick tonight. Probably wishful thinking to expect 90’ from Wentzel, but if he can put in a good shift it’d be so helpful. Same w Miggy. Then potential starters/subs tonight are: Horn/Nilsson, Timo/Yaro, Edu/Morales, Watts for either WB/CM. Rest Hartel, Wallem

The first image is what I think we can expect Saturday (Bürki being available would be amazing; no Tots really hurts). Take your pick of Hiebert/Watts at RWB. So that gives us the second image for tonight. More 4231 with the ball. That attack should be good enough. Get Edu sharp, he can sub in Sat.

Big variables with Bürki, Löwen, maybe Tots’ availability. I’d be happy with 7 pts and an Open Cup win. Minnesota will be an interesting one with similar styles facing off

Maurer sounds German, high likelihood it’s us

I think it’s better to look at shot creating actions and xG/shot. If there’s no goal, there’s no GCA, regardless of if good things are happening. We’re still T-21st in SCA/90 and middle of the pack in npxG/shot though 😕

So if say he had time to take one more step before the reach, would that swing it the other way? To me he’s trying to cut out the pass and has time to coordinate to do that, but I am not highly trained on where to draw the line on these

Really strange game from Lauziere last night. Inconsistent, doing make up calls (Klauss yellow then foul called on Sabbi), not addressing Ocampo kicking it into Wallem on the ground or Blackmon checking and unsuspecting Klauss off the ball. I’m sure VAN has complaints, too

It’s been really frustrating with the results lately. The fact we haven’t been getting dominated (Philly was bad) with the key injuries we have gives room for optimism, though. It was possible to beat two really good teams the last 2 games with how we played. Just not capitalizing

I’m biased on this one (no doubt clear and obvious there) and am not a VERY experienced ref like all of the refs that made the decision (I’m Grassroots level). In the end, I think Blackmon deliberately played the ball and it shouldn’t have been overturned.

Too, in thinking about “clear & obvious,” did the Ref/AR make a determination on “deliberate” during the on-field decision? If so, I don’t see how that could be a clear & obvious mistake. I’m guessing the AR missed the offsides position and so there wasn’t a discussion, though. Release the audio!

I really hope this gets covered by #InstantReplay @andrew-wiebe.bsky.social and esp. by PRO’s Inside Video Review series on Youtube. I’d like to hear the audio with the reasoning for why this was not a “deliberate” play by Blackmon. Was it solely the distance cited? Are my interpretations wrong?
