Meanwhile, I'm thinking of the first time I went to an ER in Canada and, when I asked what I owed them, they were like "wtf dude, no, just leave. You're in the way."

Things are about to get a bit ancient. I baked these biscuity sherds on a hemisphere cake tin in an attempt to recreate Ancient Greek pottery fragments in all three dimensions. The originals, dating from c.1600-435 BCE, can be found in the collections of the Ashmolean Museum.

That is a good point. I just hope the market for teaching stabilizes before long, as companies, *cough cough* I mean universities, haven't figured this out yet.

And have a modicum of pride in being human. To believe the whole 'AI is alive!' thing you must have such a wasteland of a soul . . . .

I had to edit this several times to make it not just a string of profanity.

There is a wonderful 'Museum of Romani Culture' here in Brno, Czechia. I think it is the only one of its kind. I learned a great deal!

We have it in us to be a great country. To do the right thing. We could do it. We are moving in the opposite direction, and it is up to us to live up to the promise that we have. The promise that we continually talk about but never achieve. We could do it.

It was, uh, already pretty critical.

This is why we had sweeps on the tall ship I worked on. Actually, they prob wouldn't have had time to get 'em out even if that would have worked.

I’ll share what I said to him: the reason we’re hearing so much AGI hype today is entirely about justifying AGI infrastructure investments. Bigger claims are needed for bigger money. You can read between the generated tokens of their press releases to tell what the AI industry is worried about…

One of my favorite little historical tidbits is that (it is thought) Bronze Age armies would have included a smith who followed soldiers into battle so they could bang the dents and such out of armor and weapons in between bouts of combat. Fight, fall back, repair break, back to the fight.

Remember! Capitalism is deeply weird and aberrant when measured against the vast history and variety of human experience. :)

If there's anything I've learned from studying the ancient world it's that people have always loved omens, and who am I to gainsay that?

Sad face. But really, the societal implications are disturbing, considering the source. Like, I remember those places.

I had assumed that I was the 'cool' teacher, who just 'got' my Gen Z students, unlike many of my colleagues and now I am upset, because, as one of the peoples responding to you pointed out, this is bad.
