The brain drain will be when scientists are forced into other careers/jobs so that they can keep paying the bills. They will never return. There aren't enough science jobs in other countries to absorb even a fraction of those laid off.

never call yourself a content creator or allow anyone else to call you that

Introduce yourself with some jobs you've done: -janitor at a petfood testing facility (palatability testing, the animals were all rescues and slightly chubby) -line worker in a plastics factory -sailor on a tall ship -archaeological tech for the water company on a small island in the S Pacific

Duolingo right now: youtube.com/shorts/hL9pl...

This is basically why Suetonius exists and remains popular.

What're you wearing to Bluesky prom?

This is literally the entire male population of the town I grew up in in PA.

Growing up in the 90s, in the heady days immediately after the end of the Cold War, I did not have 'the US will commit institutional, economic, and political suicide in 30 years' on my bingo card.

Building a "Museum of Tolerance" on top of Muslim graves wasn't enough. Netanyahu has announced that Israel is going for more of Mamilla Cemetery -- by announcing plans to restore Mamilla Pool. www.thenationalnews.com/news/mena/20...

Children are bearing the brunt of Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Here are some of the tragic stories of the most recent victims.

Can't believe I'm seeing these fucking articles in the media again. AI IS NOT 'CONSCIOUS.' IT JUST DOES STATISTICS VERY FAST. What is the next word in a sentence? Statistics says. . . . What would this painting look like? Statistics says. . . . . Get a fucking grip people.

Anyways, I wonder if pushing STEM and simultaneously cutting the humanities has had any long term affects?

I swear to god, if I receive a Democratic funding email after a 215-214 vote I will literally explode in righteous fury.

Fascinating world of ancient #glass: an amazing #Roman glass jug with a smaller glass jug inside – a so-called joke-jar that shows the skill of the glassmaker. Probably made in workshop in Cologne, found in a grave in Stein am Rhein, #Switzerland, 4th c. AD. 📷 Kantonsarchäologie Schaffhausen 🏺

For #WorldBeeDay - Attic Black-Figure amphora, ca. 540 BC, showing the four men who attempted to steal honey from the hives that fed the infant Zeus - Laios, Keleos, Kerberos, and Aigolios - being punished by the bees! 🐝 Image: BM (1847,0716.1). Link - www.britishmuseum.org/collection/o...

It's #WorldBeeDay Calling for a stronger global action to protect them #SaveTheBees A delicate c. 3,600 year old Minoan gold ornament, finely decorated with filigree-work and granulation, in the form of a bee. Length: 1.9 centimetres Weight: 17 grains www.britishmuseum.org/collection/o...

So, America is a country that has done terrible terrible things. Hypocrisy is central to its identity. But, actually, it's in that hypocrisy that I find hope. Because every so often, rarely, but it does happen, our actions match our words. And in that fact lies the germ of a truly great country.

Hey! Come work with me! We're looking for someone who specializes in the historiography of the Humanities (broadly conceived). This is a NICE 3 year postdoc in lovely Brno, Czechia. Deadline is June 30th.

AI is failing faster and more obviously than I need it to for my postdoc (which involves a critical assessment of big data applications in the Humanities).

I moved from adjunct teaching to a couple research postdocs just before the big 'students using AI' tsunami hit and, honestly, I'm really worried about going back to teaching. I love teaching, I hate that this makes me fear a thing I love. Ok, my FIRST fear is I'll never get a job to teach again. .

Pretty cool.

its often cheaper than Amazon too, not sure how they do it but they do

Happy Saturday everyone! Here’s a charming little octopus from a Roman villa at Villaquejida, León, Spain. Limestone, 2nd-3rd century AD. 🐙❤️ Museo Arqueológico Nacional, Madrid 📷 by me #Archaeology
