Automotive normativity and domination represents an immediate and long term social cost but also a substantial and un-ignorable household financial burden of artificial necessity.
We can and must change course.

The proposals on the table for the space at the time included things like an arboretum, expanded playground facilities, public walking trails, food truck pads, firepits, hammock areas, and more.
The arboretum was the one that hurt most for me to see not happen. Maybe someday.

Hilariously, of all the absurd op eds from when #rochmn was considering doing anything better with their 18 hole downtown golf course, this one somehow remains relevant

Frey has spent years granting and even benefiting from folks from outside of Minneapolis complete control of the narrative about ward 9.
Militarized presence on Lake Street was unwarranted and has destroyed any iota of credibility MPD had with moderates in this part of town.

Maybe if he had some additional PAC funding, he could afford to send a surrogate...

@jchavezmpls.bsky.social by comparison may have cleared out all available Hispanic baked goods of the lake street corridor.

We like to push back whenever cities insist a paid off-duty cop is necessary for safe street crossings by asking why they haven't prioritized sufficiently safe infrastructure design in those locations.

My experience is that it is a huge pain to get insurance for an event ride that does not have this language for rider expectations.
And insurance is a non-negotiable for events like these.

It isn't very busy, but I have hope that it someday could be. Looks like you did join!

Same as how company cars also get used to run errands, drop kids off, stop at the gym on the way to the office, stop by the teeball game on the way home, etc.
If you/your community are serious about climate impact mitigation from cars, look at the whole picture.

Last census put work commutes at around 14% of trips taken. While those trips tend to be where there is money and desire to shift behavior, that can and should be used to help facilitate mode-shift in other categories as well.

Saw it being installed - It was the first time drivers have ever stopped for me at that intersection.
This is such a small but impactful investment. Hopefully a path towards a more permanent solution.

Park Commissioner Tom Olsen making a pitch to replace some of his colleagues: Right now we have a park board prioritizing asphalt over green space, prioritizing parking over water quality.

This would have been a great opportunity to educate drivers that bike riders are allowed to use the full lane even if there is a bike lane. Or how parking in bike lanes is dangerous and illegal.

This sounds so good.
Serve it over a really good vanilla ice cream?

There's definitely cool public housing stuff that happened. Austria and Singapore are typically my reference points for that.
But I was more referring to the US. Otherwise the 20th century could be painted as being responsible for subways, high speed rail, and a bunch of other great stuff.

Say more! I'm not sure I'm tracking on the thought process for this one.
The West Side Line was built in 1850ish, abandoned in the 1980s, and converted into a linear park in 2011 after a 12 year effort.

This is a great one and a fascinating look at the somewhat dated definition of nature as being something separate from humanity. With examples like the clearing of the Ahwahneechee people from the Yosemite Valley for the purpose of creating the specific vision of the park.
Thank you!

Where will I park, Aaron? Where will I be able to park my enormous SUV? (don't say in one of the multiple ramps or side streets)

I'm looking forward to being able to get to places like Magers & Quinn by bike and bus after Hennepin Ave is finished, and I'm glad it will be safe for everyone to get there too.
And an Apple store or a Lululemon isn't the kind of destination that supports local anyways....
