also of course this is also gender, because a key part of this is "you cannot keep raping Stanford grads" driving tech elites completely insane and ditto for media elites and Me Too

I work with a lot of blue collar 1st and 2nd-gen Mexican-Americans. These people are as you might imagine intensely freaked out over the ICE raids, which are happening at quite a clip in the area around my workplace. I've heard absolutely nobody say "we need to vote Democratic next time"

I think it's worse than that, I think that a lot of normies are completely incapable of drawing any sort of cause and effect connection, politically. Elections happen, then other stuff happens, and later you hear from your cousin or on tiktok how it was somebody's fault, but who knows?

In American politics, it does not matter if you hate Jews, publicly or privately; the only thing that matters is whether you are willing to publicly run interference for their unspeakable geopolitical hobbies

This is a real tension in the right wing coalition. The racist wing wants honest to God deportations of all Latinos, the business wing wants *the threat of* deportations as a way to create a group of second class laborers they can exploit with no rights.

Trying to do light-touch politics on the margins when playing against vulgar Schmittians is moronic behavior. It's demonstrably what's happening, and it's only inertia and friction keeping us from trying literally anything else

if New Jersey votes to burn the machine to the ground and New York elects a young Muslim socialist instead of an old Italian pervert, that's a guttural scream of rage from the Democratic electorate

I think that goes double for Britain, which exerts the greatest influence on the perception of premodern history in the anglophone world. Britain also has the sparsest documentation in the post-Roman west. An entire century for which the only lengthy textual witnesses are Saints Gildas and Patrick.

Rome fell apart in the West because the prize of becoming emperor became more important to generals with power than actually governing

there are no liberal means by which one can defeat illiberalism. once your opposition commits to fraud and violence you are more or less obligated to use the power of the state to destroy them
