It's a real problem in some areas, but there will be opposition to extending ULEZ, with criminals destroying equipment as they believe driver freedom tops children's health. Some politicians will also promise to end ULEZ to win votes, power more important than children. This shouldn't be political

What was so good about the fifties? I was born in the fifties, a few things were better, fewer cars meant more freedom for children, public services growing, etc But cold damp houses, limited food options etc Only fools would want to take us back there, by better they just mean 'fewer immigrants'.

Typical of the BBC to think this is a story, and RAC has no sense of irony. Why alarm bells in council offices? Why not alarm bells in RAC offices? Some of these people will be their members. Why not use their influence to educate? War on Motorists, my......

It's time for a law they makes it compulsory to provide help and contact emergency services in the event of a road incident. Failure to do so should be treated similarly to manslaughter or serious assault, with appropriate sentences. Then responsibility for incident doesn't matter.

It's funny that people view any restriction on their driving as 'revenue generation'. Something introduced for safety or improved traffic or bus flow, but may cause some slight inconvenience Luke driving slower. Revenue generation, tax on motorists. It's a poor tax if so easily avoided!

Is this so some of Reform's foreign backers have a bolt hole if things get difficult at home?

We need a government with a backbone and a serious plan to serve the majority not the few.

I think that you will find that it is also selfish of drivers to Keep to the speed limit Obey traffic signs and lights Ignore double yellow lines and making them difficult to get past. Sitting in a car gives some people a strange perspective on life, and a believe in their privilege.

The BBC is showing a distinct lack of respect for England and democracy with it's continuous platforming and promotion of Farage and Reform. I know that Farage is their creation, but this is giving him and his party more credibility than they deserve.

Perhaps it's time for a law demanding that people provide support and obtain assistance following a road incident. Failure to do so should be considered to be on a level with a serious violent offence or manslaughter. Then in cases like this, the driver would get a proper sentence.
comment in response to post
Unbelievable, no it isn't actually. The system will bend over backwards to avoid punishing drivers for dangerous driving. How can 'Momentary lapse of concentration' be considered as a defence. What about the speeding etc. what does a driver need to do for the courts to treat these things seriously?

It's the same in the UK, the wealthy backed a buffoon as they thought he could be easily led or bought, and he was a disaster as PM, to be followed by other pliable PMs who were as bad. Now they're putting money on another one who is willing to say any old crap that he is fed.

If you go, can some of us English come with you. We're fed up with the London centric government, Tory corruption, Reform grifting and lies. It's time for a change.

Yes but children don't matter. They can't vote, aren't shareholders or directors, don't have capital to invest, and can't make political donations Expendables! Sad isn't it.

So the UK government has reached a sensible post Brexit agreement with a European country and the world hasn't ended. What a surprise! The only downside is that certain Brexit fanatics haven't suffered exploded with indignation. But then Brexit was only every a means to an end

So somebody thinks that there is more money to be screwed out of bill payers without the inconvenience of actually investing in the system. Come on UK Government, grow a backbone and do the right thing, and don't pay off the shareholders.

I'm sure that all police forces must have some officers who are unfit for normal duties but who could sit at a desk reviewing videos and issuing the appropriate response. This is a case of pedestrians and cyclists are not important enough to inconvenience drivers.

If my understanding of GDP is right, the UK can grow by importing and selling useless plastic tat from China, (no issue with China as such, they produce some good EVs etc) and the far East and selling it at a profit. Not the kind of growth anybody needs but governments welcome.

So how many deaths caused by autonomous vehicles per year will be deemed acceptable? Currently all deaths caused by vehicles are considered acceptable except in very very specific circumstances. Then courts appear to look for ways to give as small sentences as possible.

Farage is the BBC's project. They featured him as the joke politician on Have I Got News For You. Flushed with the success of project Boris, they now need to push on with getting another joke PM.
comment in response to post
They are very keen to remove our human rights, obviously not theirs, and to apply their definition of free speech, which means only being allowed to say things that they agree with. Using 'illegal' migrants is just a smoke screen

They are probably the same MPs who complain that the minimum wage is too high, support the 2 child cap, that private landlords are misrepresented and complain that MPs salary and expenses aren't enough to live on. They have no idea or care about how many people in the UK struggle to survive.

I agree that the UK's involvement needs to be exposed and those responsible held to account. Is a public enquiry the best way? Too long, too expensive There must be a better way!

Also stop providing intelligence and any other support.

Boris's dog probably ate them!

Can the government please stop pretending to be Reform and get on with making the country better. Everyone will be a lot happier.

I'm sure that Farage will know where the money is coming from, and who to take orders from.

I've paid for a VPN and watched some of the Giro live on Italian TV, and other races on Belgian TV. VPN was £24 for a year. Some are free but have a limited number of countries to connect to

It must have been an accident, he lives in a cul de sac! Great defence from the Mail.

All roundabouts, traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, speed limits are woke. They require drivers to obey rules and have consideration for others. They should all be removed to allow the natural order to prevail, and to allow drivers to proceed at maximum speed without the need to slow down.

He must be innocent. He lives in a cul de sac!!

But they won't be in bunkers, they will be in some promised land that is unaffected by climate change. A bountiful land, where a private army protects them, happy servants toil to provide food and comfort while the rest of the world dies. Untill one day, some want the cake shared, revolution!!!

Perhaps, just a thought, if Starmer stopped pretending to be Reform lite, and came up with policies that worked for the majority, stopped bowing to the media, oil companies and the wealthy, he might, just might, be more popular and see off Farage.
comment in response to post
The old SMIDSY defence. He lied and denied, is such a person fit to be behind the wheel?

Has the BBC also reported on the plans of the leaders of Lib Dems, Greens, SNP, etc. Why hasn't the BBC realised that Farage is no longer the joke candidate, the man to be laughed at on Have I got News for You. Most of us aren't laughing anymore.

I saw extreme motornormality on a recent visit to a couple of Greek islands. In the towns, the narrow roads had space for parking on at least one side, often both. This was because the footpaths were made very narrow and had all the street furniture and trees on them. Difficult for buggies pushers.
comment in response to post
I strongly agree with 20 limits. My concern is enforcement. My daughter lives on a road with a 20 limits, but it is regularly ignored. Where I live, the main street has a 30 limit and is busy and restricted by parking. But often cars travel along it at high speed. No enforcement, no respect.

Because the government, the courts and the media just consider them to be accidents.

What's changed? The indiscriminate bombing and killing has been going on for months. Has it taken this long for governments to think that Israel has crossed a line? Is the UK still providing intelligence to Israel? Are our leaders worried about being war criminals for the active support of Israel?

Is it possible to betray a lie? Brexit itself was a betrayal.

The media always report rising house prices as a good thing. Never a comment on the social impact on the renters, sofa surfers and families looking for a first home or needing more space.

The cruelty involved is unbelievable. No thought for the women involved and their trauma or situation. Legal cases can take years to come to court, so more cruelty and lack of care. I would think that any miscarriage is traumatic and need care and support, not PC Plod treading over your life.

Starmer needs to ignore the leavers and Farage and do what's necessary. Farage will rattle on but if someone actually challenged him, he wouldn't be able to say what a good Brexit was or what actual policies he has that would stand scrutiny. 'So after you have sent all foreign looking people home...
comment in response to post
People talking on the radio mentioned ' betrayal of Brexit'. How can you betray a lie? We were betrayed by the lies of leavers, the BBC etc for promoting Farage, the incompetence of Boris and Frost and their cheerleaders in negotiating leaving, and the failure to address the issues since.

So ask Starmer, if he is happy to actively support Israel in the destruction of Gaza, the murder and displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, what are his plans for the support and resettlement of the injured and displaced people, they are people? The government has a plan?????,
comment in response to post
Could you ask Starmer that if he is so happy to fully support Israel on the total destruction of Gaza, the forced migration of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, what are his plans for supporting and resettling the Palestinians? I am sure that there must be a plan???

And for everyone to be on minimum wage, which he probably thinks is too high.

It's a reward for success. They have successfully screwed their customers, not invested any money in infrastructure, conned the regulator, and dumped as much shit in the environment as they could. They deserve a bonus! (Sarcasm)
