Did anyone in the US listen to the King’s Throne speech today? I would rather forgo Trump’s golden shower and keep free medical, dental, maternity leave, subsidized day care, & build security and trading arrangements with civilized countries led by adults, than give it all up to become a US state.

I talked to a long time friend in the US today. I told him, being Cdns, we will always be nice, but do not expect us to ever trust the US again. And that neither I, nor anyone I know, will visit the US anytime soon, or buy their products unless we have to. He had no idea of how angry we are.

Well said. I would also add, as a business person, that only a fool with their money would make a deal with someone they can’t trust.

You are right to call this out Dory. I think Trump, PP, and Smith’s strategy is to divert Canadians from uniting against the existential crisis Canada is facing and instead fight among ourselves, leaving them and their MAGA hordes to come out ahead.

Your attitude is exactly why Trump is President and creating this chaos.

Because PP mobilized his hordes. Trudeau tried to, but progressives were too pure and focused on their own special interest to do the same.

Thank you to you artists for urging us to look beyond our false idols and embrace our shared humanity. Wondrous work Dory.

I follow you from Canada. It is inconceivable to most of us that many of your leaders want to erode your access to social services even further. How do normal people even have an affordable life? And many Americans think Canadians would want to follow you down this hell hole?

What Americans may not understand is this is just not about tariffs. That would be a trade spat adults could work through. Your President has declared war on Canada. Imagine your response if Canada said we are going to annex your state and you are just going to have to learn to like it.

OMG. Of course it would. What a brilliant, but disturbing, observation.

These are wise words, but what if one country is threatening to either economically emasculate or take over the other, how can trust endure? Your US allies may be understanding, but they are representing an antagonistic government who cannot deliver on any commitments.

If you love Canada, its complexity and diversity, its phenomenal range of environments, and the institutions that both reflect us, and bring us together: read this article & watch this show! In addition to buying Cdn; embrace what is best about us. And this show captures it. It will make you proud.

I am unsure if most Americans understand their government is declaring (economic) war on Canada. Imagine your reaction if the person you thought was your best friend suddenly turned and viciously attacked you. This is the way we see it.

A warming climate leads to more fires, therefore less shade over streams, more run-off, greater sediment loads, worse flooding events & a reduction in the # of smaller streams as viable habitat and reduced diversity. The impacts of a warming climate ripple through the ecosystem.

I should say. I am not a scientist. Just someone who has worked with scientists and been an observer of BC’s salmon abundance for 40 years, as a harvester, leader in industry, and now working with eNGOs and First Nations. I was there when salmon were abundant. And I am a witness to what is left.

I want to agree with Charlie. I really do. After all, free access to medical care is our founding myth every much as unfettered access to guns is necessary for freedom to prevail, is the American myth. Both require critical analysis. As both are untrue.

After considerable work on salmon and FRIM (Fishery Related Incidental Mortality), which considers the long-term impacts of C&R fishing; we suggest that the use of C&R as a conservation tool can approach ‘green washing’ unless the mortality associated with C&R is integrated in assessments and mgt.
