Ex Cambridge Analytica exec Brittany Kaiser - a self-titled whistleblower who wrote a memoir on how big data, Trump & Facebook broke democracy - is Director and 1.4% owner of Gryphon Digital Mining which is merging with American Bitcoin part owned by Don Jr and Eric Trump www.sec.gov/Archives/edg...

Just a reminder--it was 13 days ago that Donald Trump said he needed two weeks to decide whether to push for harder sanctions on Russia. When he, inevitably, fails to do so--can we have a retraction published for every story/commentary that took his BS on this seriously?

I realize that this is almost worn out at this point (which is itself pretty wild) but “the executive took over 2000 troops in violation of the only statute he cited and the local police are shooting reporters” is the sort of thing for which “imagine if this happened in another country” was coined

for context here’s a map of greater Los Angeles and the protest is the roughly the red circle

The conditions that have led to what’s happening in the US today exist in democracies around the world. They are an inevitable outcome of our collective failure to adapt to fundamental changes in the information ecosystem on which our democracies were originally built.

In amongst all the excitement I fear many have missed this outstanding bit of trolling by Friedrich Merz. The Chancellor gifted Trump a gilded framed copy of his grandfather’s German birth certificate... reminding Americans that Trump is both the child and grandchild of migrants.

New piece! Media coverage of Kilmar Abrego Garcia hurt Trump, not Democrats. An actually data-driven analysis of some stale conventional wisdom. Alt title: Matt Yglesias is wrong about Democrats and Abrego Garcia🧵

Appreciate the reference (below) to @propublica.org’s coverage of Russ Vought in @hcrichardson.bsky.social’s newsletter today. I have more Vought reporting in the works. I’d love to hear from anyone with information about Vought, OMB, and DOGE. Contact info in my bio.

🔥MUST-WATCH: @profgalloway.com takes Elon apart “Somehow in 🇺🇸 we decided💰excuses depravity… his behavior his abhorrent. He’s not a role model. His legacy won’t be an EV or rockets— it’ll be unnecessary death, disease, disability of 🌎’s most vulnerable.” piers: “Wow.”

I sent this in a tiny break between calls without explanation, so let me be clearer: Publications are not reaching people they need to reach or converting those people to regular readers and subscribers by making especially the mobile experience a farcical clownscape that confounds understanding.

Minneapolis

if you represent or work for a hospital who gets investigated by the FBI, i want to talk to you. my signal is in my bio.

New piece: Most Trump voters did not "vote to deport moms." They voted bc inflation was high under Biden, to deport criminals, or something else. Many do not support Trump's policies. Welcoming those voters back into the tent is key to future Dem victory. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/many-trump...

A beautiful & very personal essay in the fantastic @mississippifreepress.org about the exploitation of racial division as a tool of internal control & oppression — of all races — which will continue to weaken our democracy until we see it for what it is www.mississippifreepress.org/democracy-wh...

Vital point here. The frames of political discourse — which are shaped by the structure of the info environment and by both strategic & organic communication — shape how people interpret their own experiences. We're not dealing with a problem of bad "facts" ... but one of corrupted sensemaking.

Reform UK exemplifies a new model of politics shaped by the logic of the attention economy, where virality and outrage matter more than governance, delivery, or outcomes. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

The Philly GOP is running a write-in campaign for @dalarrykrasner.bsky.social's primary opponent, and now Scott Presler's Early Vote Action is trying to drum up support for him as well. Help us on Team Krasner keep Philly safer and freer. And VOTE ON TUESDAY! secure.actblue.com/donate/krasn...

This report illustrates sovereign aggression in its final form.

Easy like Sunday morning :).

Sealed!

We are up against a president who is eliminating accountability in federal court for his friends and co-conspirators. It's up to local prosecutors in places like Philly to make sure they know that if they come to Philly, they can F around and find out.

🧵 There’s a thread going around misrepresenting my work and Bellingcat’s education strategy. I want to use this as an opportunity to explain what we’re actually doing—and why it matters. This is about truth, democracy, and how we build a more resilient society. x.com/buynevich/st...

Any Dem in Congress who isn’t actively working toward impeachment needs to be voted out.

Expected to be a vote on the motion to table the impeachment resolution this afternoon. Some Dems including leadership will try to spin voting to kill it as not technically a vote on impeachment itself, but it absolutely is in the same way cloture in the Senate isn’t really about ending debate.

If you're in the USA, you can no longer watch the Dutch TV special about my theories on fascism and pro wrestling on YouTube! Oh no!! But fear not, for I have uploaded the full thing to my Vimeo for American viewing and sharing Go forth:

New from me: Everything feels overwhelming. But here is a tangible thing you can do: write a comment to oppose Trump's plan to convert 50,000 career civil servants into political appointees. Deadline is May 23. Please share! donmoynihan.substack.com/p/here-is-a-...
