To put another way, which does the political worry about more? The primary or the general election?
comment in response to post
Nothing. It isn’t a question of going over the line, rather whether the line itself shifts.
comment in response to post
The answer to that question depends a lot on the poll numbers

Does anyone think tax laws will be enforced against Musk or his companies?

Trump used the courts to harass, not win cases. Nothing in the Supreme Court's decision prevents the DOJ from harassing former presidents.

If they are really a threat to our national security as so many politicians have informed me, why do we want to own it instead of shut it down?

Exemption from criminal law and political control of the Justice Department is possibly the most dangerous combination possible under our constitution.

Who is releasing this information?

Is Trump pulling protection from others or just those he perceives as adversaries?

Oligarchs on the dais. Nobody who worked with Donald at McDonald’s.

If it is a threat to national security if shouldn’t be on the internet. If American government internet is banned in China, China internet should be banned here.

There is huge money to be made in destabilizing the United States.

I assumed the Chinese were exporting fentanyl to destabilize us politically.

Bank robberies are ok just as long as they are transparent.

If the president can't be sued, he shouldn't be able to sue. But it is the threat that's chilling.

In fairness. a lot of people have seen Pete Hegseth when he was sober.

I gave up my sense of humor several years ago for Lent.

Do we have confidence in the integrity of Pam Bondi? Do we believe she will reject political influence? Do we think she will be just and fair? We need to think about these things now, before it is too late.

Government officials should not be allowed to invalidate elections by throwing away, or otherwise "losing", ballots.

That and get rid of Musk's space program.

Consider the context also. Trump doesn't have a strategy, and that isn't news either to the Times readership or the public generally. In newspapers, there is a bias toward covering things that happen and not to cover things that don't.

I see nothing wrong with this headline.
comment in response to post
Earthquakes don't have a strategy, but they do shake things up. No headline ever written has pleased everyone, but that isn't a good reason for not writing them.
comment in response to post
the reason I know about it is because it was covered extensively in the Times and elsewhere.

When the senate refused to consider Garland's nomination to the Supreme Court, I thought Obama should have taken that as consent and forced him on the court.

Joe Biden isn't the first president to issue a self serving pardon at the end of his time in office.

Obviously, politicians entered into the judicial process. Hearings were held, statements were issued, there was a 60 Minutes segment. Since there was political interference, a political response was not inappropriate.

I do think the prosecution of Hunter Biden was influenced by political considerations.

Did Pete leave his laptop in a shop for repairs?

It seems to me that the decision was made to win it or lose it on that play. The field goal wouldn't have been easy, and the odds would have been against the Bears in overtime.

Hiring a currency speculator to run the Treasury department is like hiring a bookie to coach an NFL team.

Do I still have to pay federal taxes if my federal funding is pulled?

Were there any that didn't?

America has a billionaire problem. They combine power with amorality, the worst mix ever.

She said it in a speech. I think she was referring to “Heartburn”.

The problem with leaving "X" was that the alternatives were fragmented. But what seems to be emerging now is that the consensus alternative is Bluesky. Can that continue?

She won't meaningfully answer questions. She will be like a Supreme Court nominee.

We do live in a world, after all, where Nora Ephron lost the role of playing herself to Meryl Streep. Are you sure you are not Meryl Streep?

I can't believe they support Trump but they do.

The next step for Cannon is the Court of Appeals.

It will be interesting to see in which direction Trump jumps. Not that many people are as personally awful as Gaetz, but there are plenty of awful people out there who Trump could choose. He just has to mediate the awful.
comment in response to post
If Gaetz goes away, my interest in the house report diminishes a lot. Trump won, and that means he gets to be president. I don't like it, but there it is.
