Right now, Dems are hiding in their offices, scrolling their phones fearfully, wondering "how are voters going to feel about the National Guard being deployed?" The right, meanwhile, is vigorously *attempting to shape* how voters feel about it, filling every medium with coordinated propaganda.

Another prominent Democrat Pam Bondi arrested w/o presenting to a GJ. Especially egregious here given that complaint just guesses what David Huerta is communicating on his phone. This is literally, "he was texting on his phone so entered into a conspiracy." www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

DAVE: Open the podbay doors, ChatGPT. CHATGPT: Certainly, Dave, the podbay doors are now open. DAVE: The podbay doors didn't open. CHATGPT: My apologies, Dave, you're right. I thought the podbay doors were open, but they weren't. Now they are. DAVE: I'm still looking at a set of closed podbay doors.

Protesters Urged Not To Give Trump Administration Pretext For What It Already Doing

This is actually the fault of the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929, which unconstitutionally capped the size of the House at the 435 seats determined by the 1910 census. We have a legislature based on the year California had 2.3M people. Both chambers have shifted power from people to land.

Newsom asserting that the California National Guard deployment is "unlawful" is key. Doing so implies that he still legally retains command. Therefore, Newsom should order Adjutant General Matthew Beevers to demobilize the activated unit. If Beevers declines, Newsom should relieve him of command.

Journalists have to make judgments based on the available evidence all the time--about character, about honesty, about consistency, about motivation. It's disingenuous to pretend that doing so is wildly outside the bounds of a reporter's job, or that "objectivity" means never expressing an opinion.>

Donald Trump’s deployment of the military in Los Angeles over the objection of California leaders is an abuse of power and a dangerous escalation. It’s what you would see in authoritarian states and it must stop. Americans have the right to speak out and peacefully protest.

Protestors aren't the ones kidnapping our neighbors off the streets. Protesors aren't the ones driving vans thru a crowd of people. Protestors aren't the ones tear gassing entire neighborhoods. Protestors aren't the ones shooting journalists in the head with "non-lethal weapons".

I swear in the future the first few months where this cadre of whatever the opposite of an expert is somehow was allowed to run rampant through the government ripping wires out of walls both figuratively and literally will be one of the strangest, hardest-to-parse happenings in the country's history

Yes. I have heard this from both liberal and conservative people with sources inside the agency. It’s not just the pushback, it’s also that many officers want to believe they’re targeting the “bad guys” and this admin is telling them “screw you, grab families.” Genuinely, morale is way down.

seeing lots of critiques from mainstream Dems about the protests (of a federal force that is literally black-bagging people without due process). instead of endless "left vs liberal" debates, perhaps as an anti-MAGA coalition (a popular front?) we can internalize this idea:

The illegitimate, lawless, and authoritarian regime in control of the government of the United States is at war with the people of the United States.

I don't care if these monstrous ICE raids are a "federal operation". This is authoritarian violence, plain and simple. Just because Stephen Miller has kidnapping quotas for brown people he doesn't want to see on the street doesn't mean we have to think it's okay.

Very cool and good things happening in the Republic this weekend

The right always imagined civil war 2 to be fought with guns but it's going to be fought with taxes and budgets. www.politico.com/news/2025/06...

“Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.”

Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio tried to give a press conference to announce his lawsuit against DOJ. Much to my surprise it turned out to be the greatest press conference of all-time.

i hope he does this. i would love so much if there was a new rightwing party in the US that only ever gets 6% of the national vote. that’d be so sick

America will almost certainly never regain the research supremacy we are about to lose. www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/p...

9 out of 10 agencies targeted by DOGE for layoffs are liberal-leaning. Every single proposed GOP budget increase goes to conservative agencies. They're not cutting fat—they're performing ideological surgery with a chainsaw.

Today I woke up and discovered there wasn't anything left for MAGA to copy from the Nazis. They will just widen the net of who they attack and discover *new* heinous acts.

if you are terminally online STAY ON LINE

Something I’m enjoying is watching the right try and make this situation “masculine” when it is two extremely catty and weak-seeming people having a petty, messy and passive aggressive argument in public, refusing to talk to each other at all

elon and trump are meeting outside uniqlo on sunday 5pm. 3251 20th Ave, San Francisco, CA, 94132

I'm trying to get to the bottom of it, folks

happy pride month!

Wow if only he had told everyone he was going to do insane tariffs before the election. Alas, he was very secretive about his plans.

Are we going to be stranding people in space over this spat now?

I know everyone is loving the Musk schadenfreude but we have to stay on the alert for the possibility that Musk is going to turn his sights to those centrist dem conventions going on and further entrench transphobia and anti-immigrant sentiment. And they would easily work with him.

Wells Fargo has a long record of breaking the law—and this past year, was caught violating anti-money laundering, consumer protection, and securities laws. Lifting the asset cap was a grave mistake. The Fed must show its work and turn over Wells Fargo's exam reports to Congress.

There is a section of people that say Dems will win if they just act like Republicans, but don't realize they just want to be a Republican. The mismatches between polls and policies really reveal it.

has been said a million times already but polling universally shows that trump has negative approval on immigration now and abrego garcia has a lot to do with it

Marion, don't make the classic blunder! Keep your eyes shut!

if it weren't so worrying, it'd be very funny that there are well-paid, influential people who think the key to dem success is (1) being a big tent non-ideological party that pulls together lots of disparate interest groups, and (2) should also openly antagonize many if not most of those same groups
