Compare coverage of Calwell with the number of articles in the Age (even now) on Goldstein.

Same, same, but different 😁

I guess it's a hard story to tell. So many important aspects of Brian's life are things few people would have talked openly about at the time. But it's such an important story to tell.

This is a good reason why written biographies & novelisations are more satisfying -no quibbling about whether the actors look right or if they're the right songs. A Lewisohn-standard biography of Brian Epstein would be well worth reading.

"Economic security" is sounding really rather similar to "lebensraum".

(Don't go round tonight, for it's bound to take your life) There's a bathroom on the right.

Ranulph Fiennes' book is somewhat critical of him - basically a guy who was lost in his life other than exploring. There's also the argument that every one of his missions fell short of its goal - which is probably a bit unfair.

It appears the law of entropy applies to social media, & perhaps is accelerating in this case. It was nice for the 5 seconds it lasted...

#hcts. The presence of Eric 'Enoch' Clapton is enough to disqualify WMGGW in my book.

#life Here Comes The Sun is going to win this thing anyway, & we can't have an all George final. Although In My Life is heavily George too - meaning George Martin.

Judging by my son's friends, if kids these days know one Beatles song, it's Here Comes the Sun. Even Yellow Submarine gets blank looks from some of them.

That will be interesting - it reflects the current BlueSky population, which is of course skewed to people who have been put off X. So probably more progressive than the wider population. That & George is very trendy these days.

Now I see Here Comes the Sun eliminated my personal favourite (Strawberry Fields) I could be tempted to regret my choice. HCTS vs SFF could have been a final - typical of a knock-out format 😉

3 George songs in the top 4 just seems ahistorical.

The Jagger quote - I think Bluesky cut off the bottom ;)

Not with the cats, but definitely with the dogs. The cats tend to decide themselves how much attention they want, & give a 'sharp' (oh so sharp) reminder when they've had their fill.

Indeed - it also explains why TV wasn't very interesting to me as a small child.

Also (1) no morning TV and (2) when did the name change from 'one day cricket tests' to 'one day internationals'?

My memory of watching Hard Days Night the night after Lennon's murder may be mistaken - there's a listing for a special tribute screening of Help on Dec 14 1980. Unless they somehow screened AHDN earlier?

Only 2 channels, many houses only had 1 TV & no means of recording, so there must have been a battle in many houses between the Muppets & Coronation Street. The Muppet Show episode is almost a year old, and TVNZ went straight from showing Season 3 (almost 2 years old when screened) to S4.

It always pays to be wary of a carnivorous piano.

That piano looks like it might have something to say about that.

Imagining what hypothetical guests might have done is a favourite game of mine. Freddie could have been a great fit with the Muppets - talented & aware of his own absurdity. You'd have to pair him with Piggy surely?

Absolutely. They know there's at least as many votes for them to lose as to win on the issue, but the cynical game is to distract the left from talking about the issues where they can really do damage. They see the trans community as collateral.

In the 2022 Australian election, the right wing tried to used it as bait. They wanted the left to be talking about that rather than cost of living, which was what mattered more to voters. Fortunately the left didn't fall for it, & duly won.

It only just occurred to me that I didn't set up a profile description when I registered here - I don't think it reminded me to. Thanks for the reminder.

The 'Beatles 64' documentary includes the Pat Boone version of Tutti Frutti. Similar vibe.

The variety of possible scores means the mode isn't likely to be useful. The median, on the other hand, might be. E.g. while Kane Williamson has a test average of 54.7, his median looks to be around 31 (rough 1-minute calculation...)

Until quite recently, the ALP was in power in all the mainland states & territories. What incumbent govt anywhere in world is polling well at the moment?
