Happy birthday @karlgroves.bsky.social! Hopefully you’re catching waves somewhere.

My heart is heavy this week seeing the military used against my people. My heart is heavy for the military being used against their neighbors.

Ugh. Not Dwayne Wiggins!! I got a kick out of seeing him ride around Oakland on his bike with his guitar on his back. #Legend #RIP 😢

I've spent my whole career discussing links vs buttons, over and over again. I never thought it would graduate to links INSIDE buttons. What kind of hell is this? #a11y

Do you work in tech and want to rebel against this administration? Integrate accessibility into your product work, no matter the laws and the bullshit this administration says, no matter what your execs say. Treat it as a given, don't ask for permission.

MJ was right! All I want to say is that they don’t really care about us.

But who is paying all the people that are taking over government offices and payroll systems? Where is that money coming from?

Twitter's former engineering manager for accessibility warns the same message too. Americans, don't just ignore and stay silent. As @meryl.bsky.social suggests, contact your reps. Boycott brands that cancel DEIA programs. Remember, disability can happen at any time in your life. #uspoli #cdnpoli

WCAG’s “Alternate Version” clause kinda makes thinks a little more complicated doesn’t it? 🤦🏽‍♂️

I'll be delivering a talk for @deque.com's axe-con. It's a free, three day virtual conference about digital accessibility. This talk is from the heart, and I hope you can attend. www.deque.com/axe-con/sess...

Just going to leave this reminder here...

My superpower is being able to break up hours of quiet and solitude by summoning the world to ping me either by text, phone call, or any type of notification that will buzz my phone/watch simply by lying down and closing my eyes to rest.

My #a11y peeps I know it seems bleak, but keep pushing! Some days you win, some days you lose. It’s a daily grind so take a break if you need to, but KNOW you make a difference to someone, even if you never hear about it. If this is the world with us, I don’t want to know the world without us. ❤️

I already despised Elon for what he did to me, my team, and everyone else at Twitter by killing off such an important platform. But that nazi salute shit is not funny one bit. Please unfollow me and avoid me at all costs if you try to reason around that. Fuck anybody empathetic to the other side.

Get ready! Tomorrow is Bell Let's Talk Day. Support youth mental health organizations by texting YOUTH to 45678 to donate $5 and Bell will match it. Together, let's make a difference. bell.ca/letstalk

When learning or teaching WCAG we often hear level AA is only the bare minimum but we also say that AAA is too hard. It can be very confusing for people, and most of the good stuff happens after the bare minimum. How do people learn to reconcile the gap? We need to stop downplaying AAA.

Fed up with Meta? Avoiding Instagram or Facebook isn’t enough to stop Meta from harvesting and profiting from your private information. Here’s how to limit Meta’s ability to monetize your personal data.

PSA: It’s 2025, make sure you involve disabled people in any conversation or decision that specifically impacts people with disabilities. If you are absolutely unable to get feedback from disabled people with lived experience, at least listen to accessibility SME’s with earned experience.

I would add the back button to this list.

I’m excited to announce that my latest accessibility course, Foundations of Accessible Web Design, is now available! www.pluralsight.com/courses/foun... This course is for EVERYONE! Design, Content, Developers, QA, and anyone that wants to learn how to make the web more accessible using WCAG v2.2

I don’t personally ever test or remediate PDF’s, but I’ve always felt it was a lost cause. I’m at least glad to see someone try to do something, hopefully this helps? pdfa.org/new-techniqu...

I've drawn up a set of principles for approaching web accessibility. I hope they help to frame your work as we enter 2025. github.com/Heydon/princ...
