BTW i saw on your kofi you did a Cosmos in the past - do you have a pattern available for that or was that more improvised?

I picked up most of the first few years of Big Finish. (Basically through to Zagreus) They were a real joy

I prefer peloria.studio but that's because, knowing .io is a website link, I'm reading it as "peloria stud dot eye oh'

Agreed, I'd much rather there was a longer preorder time and stuff got made to order more rather than the current situation where every new release is a ridiculously chaotic rush.

I feel this idea is worth it if only for the great names I am coming up with for more Magic drag acts to fill out a whole show.
* Manna Byrne
* Paris Mulligan
* Sealed Dick
Call it DragOnStorm

I was a big NMS reader. Started with issue 2, and have strong memories of the street fighter themed free gifts in the first few issues. (The soundtrack CD was something I adored)

Me, a normal man and not at all neurodiverse, trying to identify any of fhe background actors to figure out when this picture was taken

The biggest joy I ever got from Loot Crates, etc, was watching @ashens.bsky.social review them and his frustration at Yet Another Sodding Funko Pop.
Meanwhile, my partner was subscribed to a sort of mindfulness one from the charity MIND, which sends arts and crafts bits. pauseformind.org.uk

It does tie into that nerd monoculture vibe.
YOU EITHER LIKE ALL OF STAR WARS, ONE PIECE, FIREFLY, DOCTOR WHO, STRANGER THINGS, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG AND THE WITCHER OR NONE OF THEM. THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE

I did understand more narrowly focused mystery boxes - sweets, makeup, miniatures- but the general nerd ones did feel a real gamble

My money is on going out like Mussolini. But yours sounds workable too. A giant unisex public toilet!

Even in some later eras (say issue 160 to 200 or so) a lot of issues have space set aside for codex and army book reprints.
As a kid it certainly worked to get me to buy some books, but it can make the issued underwhelming on reflection.

Picture from Citadel Journal 10, apologies for ropey quality.
It's not a looker by any means, but it is someone making something gloriously impractical and then sharing rules and build guides...

Oh god yeah! Stillmania had a piece on this once but until Tale of Four Gamers there's little acknowledgement of the reality of "I will only be able to buy and paint a small number of models per month, so my army will grow in segments"

I seem to recall the one they really regretted was the cardboard Thunderhawk. It was very low detail and not as cool as, say, the scratchbuild Baneblade from WD132 - but it was also infinitely more easily acquired for a typical gamer than their metal monstrosity!

It's weird to think how long they went without battle reports, because in just a couple of years every issue is going to end with one as the grand finale.
But even as late as the 160s there's issues throwing them in the /middle/, as I recall - feeling slightly an afterthought

The last citadel journal has a retrospective when the then-editor regrets some of the more shonky models and scratchbuilds shown in the earlier era - but for my money, those were still v. interesting to me.
The "specific guy's army" articles were, as you note upthread, a whole thing

I mean, tbf, as a kid I found these sorts of articles - and later stuff like A Tale Of Four Gamers or the Citadel Journal - looked a lot more like the warhammer i was actually encountering in the real world. The studio/Golden Demon pics were gorgeous but often all but unobtainable

Yeah, my first issue was the similarly branded White Dwarf 145. Rules for Librarians and Genestealer hybrids! An HQ and AHQ version of the same dungeon with HQ rules for Skaven! The Tyranids getting their first real article! Mind blown

When did you start playing Magic? I've been getting back into it in the last couple of months after a long time away, trying to sort through old cards and see what is valuable vs what is trash.
(Its mostly trash)
