Whatever he does will only make him even look even more weak, and cause him to loose more support. Once this starts, its a positive feedback loop.

Nobody can see the future. I don't like how Garland dragged his feet, but it was a reasonable belief that the ballot box would solve this problem and avoid further conflict, it really seemed like Trumpism was totally discredited at the time, even Republicans were condemning him. Turned out, nope.

I used to support that view as well, but now I see that these people will never stop unless there are severe consequences. Anything less is an invitation to try again until our nation is totally destroyed.

Yes, exactly this. The lies aren't there to convince anyone. Repeating the lies is a loyalty test for their followers, and a way to mock the rest of us, to mock us for clinging to even the concept of truth in the face of power.

Fox News is already reporting that Padilla "lunged at" Noem and the agents were protecting her. So that will be their narrative, which is false on its face in the actual video.

100%, and realizing this about a month ago finally let me make sense of everything.

J. F. C. This administration were the kids who would bully you into doing their homework for them. But now they have AI.

And you could end veteran homelessness with just the cost of this so-called parade and the needless and illegal military deployment in LA.

This is really true, and we all need reminding of it now and again. Its not even a break from the fight. It IS the fight. Being human is an act of defiance that inspires others, it pronounces that we have something worth protecting.

Yes, exactly this. They re-frame established norms as radical so that they can dismantle them and replace them with fascist ideology.

Its another reason they will fail. They have an adolescent fascination with drama and tactics, and zero attention span for logistics or administrative organization.

Its lies all the time, about everything, no matter how big, no matter how small. Sometimes he believes them, sometimes he doesn't, its irrelevant to him. Its about creating a buffet of lies that his supporters can then pick and choose from to justify and rationalize whatever happens.

Just like Elon said back in Jan, DOGE is the coup.

An alternative hypothesis is that the charges were fabricated merely as a pretense to bring Garcia back without "complying" with the court. This way they avoid contempt, and have a bad-faith pretense for MAGA. They'll give them a court performance and after acquittal will move to the next cruelty.

I fear the goal is only to slander him so that, once the cases fail, their followers take "justice" into their own hands.

And now they have to prove it in court to a jury, if it doesn't get thrown out altogether.

Its also myopic. Not every fight needs to be *your* fight. What you see as a distraction is somebody else's existential battle. There are enough people out there to engage on every front, encourage them, don't discourage them.

I will never understand how this evil, whiny little troll of a human got so much power for himself, so fast. We all roll our eyes at that creepy guy in high school obsessed with Ayn Rand, but sometimes they get to enact their vengeance on the world, apparently.

I follow the reasoning, but I really think that, no matter who is picked, if they lose, they will have been the "wrong person" in retrospect. There's just too much uncertainty in the game, and elections are so long that whole narratives have time to change. Authenticity is the only constant asset.

Yes, we have gone for hundreds of years without any President claiming or executing these kinds of powers or immunities. Why might that be? Could it be that every previous president was just stupid or cowardly, or that they actually don't have these powers under the constitution?

This is how it is starting, and the next step will be requiring this kind of "loyalty test" to receive any federal contract, grant, or funding. It will be another weapon used against everyone who dares defy them, including universities and private contractors.

Its tempting to say "I told you so" and to revile these people for putting us in this situation, but like it or not, we need them and their revelations to get us out of it. At this point anybody who is opposed to Trump's fascism and cruelty is an important ally, and I don't care how they arrived.

Oh wow that was her? I have the faintest early memories of seeing this Muppet Show act, I thought I had made it up, or that it was a nightmare I had. I remember being really scared of the giant blue monster.

If I heard this in 2016, I would have assumed Trump successfully staged a coup and stayed in power, and had ramped up to this during the next decade. Never would I ever imagine that he had lost in 2020, been relected in 2024, and enacted all this in 3 months. We need reminders how insane this is.

He essentially murdered these children. One of the greatest mass murders in history, by one of the cruelest means possible. And not because of any large historical force or pattern of history or tragedy of war; rather, merely by the whim of a careless, bored man.

I'm an astrobiologist and I still don't get the obsession some people have with colonizing Mars. We can do amazing science there, but it is a nightmare to imagine going there for the purpose of living, if its even possible at all. Just because something is hard to do doesn't make it worthwhile.

Trump never viewed what he was doing as appeasement. Appeasement is still a way of dealing with an adversary. Trump really believed that he had some kind of kinship with Putin, that they were in the same club together. They are not.
