On this day in 1959, the Escuminac Hurricane hit Atlantic Canada. Along the coast of New Brunswick, the storm produced 15 metre high waves that destroyed dozens of boats. Several homes were destroyed by the 121 km/h winds. A total of 35 people died, mostly fishermen.

#OTD in 1944 field trials were held by the 63rd Guards Tank Brigade against a captured Tiger tank. These trials showed that the T-34-85's 85 mm gun was a very effective weapon against the Tiger and even the T-34-76 could penetrate it from the side. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII
