That's why you need a PreAction Protocol letter, it should almost certainly get things moving.

If child is CSA also entitled to suitable full time education under s19 EdAct1996. Contact SOS!SEN & ask about a Pre Action Protocol letter. Most effective way to get this stuff sorted.

Duty under s.42 CFA2014 to deliver the provision in f however, ability to enforce is dependent on how quantified and specified the provision is described in F. Worth getting some specific advise from someone like SOS!SEN.

Some do, others, like my husband, stay in the middle for everything. I've found you need one of both in a relationship. Two 0-100's leads to a very rocky road!!! I think the stronger the ADHD - especially the 'H' the greater the up and down!

I hear you. I also have three children with disabilities. Cue 3 x more paperwork that is traumatic to deal with, and leads to overwhelm and freeze!!

We have two cats, neither understand their roles in intimidating the dogs. One moved next door to an ubundance of laps and food. The other just yells at us from the stairs, demanding his lift past the dogs. The dogs are wusses, it wouldn't have taken much, but when one has servants, why bother!

This looks interesting. Genuine question, where are the caseworkers getting their training from?

Yes, parents would willingly engage in trying to resolve issues sooner but failure of LAs to send decision makers to mediation, failing to engage in it's spirit mean most of us actively avoid this as it is simply another delay to appropriate support being put in place.

The inability of Surrey's elected councillors to hold their officers to account on SEND in the borough is appalling and has been for some years. The fact that they are actively and openly refusing to engage with MPs on it now too, speaks volumes.

Seems to me that this will simply INCREASE pressure for specialist school places and no. of kids unable to attend school! It would have to come with new protections for support in MS schools to avoid this.

And with the new ones you spend weeks researching it, buying all the necessary stuff, get annoyed about it making the place messy, find it a home and promptly forget about it, cos, out of sight is out of mind right?

I'm AuDHD, really enjoyed this. Thank you for pushing back on the 'over diagnosis' narrative. Good to have reminders that I'm not just 'shit at life', as I often feel I am.

Most definitely fact!

I absolutely agree. There is a significant chunk of this bill that discriminates against disabled children and will impact the right to privacy and making choices about family life. It has the potential to impact anyone with school age children and is being overlooked.

I understand why you support this aspect of the bill. However, a large section introduces measures that discriminate against disabled children & significantly impedes the right of parents to make important decisions about their children's education. It's worryingly authoritarian.

Yep, 2am this morning I finished my essay. Need to read through this before submitting for the 1pm deadline, then class this evening. Even though I apparently 'slept', my brain and body disagree! Every blBloody Time.

When I taught the rise of dictators, I often wondered about the average citizen. Now I unfortunately feel like I have an understanding, we can see it coming, but feel helpless in the face of it whilst also praying that sense will prevail.

Also the division between, must always have an exact pair v any two socks will do, bonus if they look vaguely similar.

This was such a powerful article. Thank you for giving Rosy, and these issues, a platform. Our society only seems to place value on those that can be as economically productive as possible. Those that can't, it does the minimum to 'support'. It says a lot about our true values.

Love this! Being pulled out of those moments is actually painful!

Behaviour IS communication, they aren't just being naughty, disrespectful etc. Listen and act if/when they show you that school isn't working for them. Advocate hard for an environment in which they feel safe and where they can hlbe their authentic selves.

So true! We've lost sight of the value of experimentation and process. Instead, following a prescribed series of basic steps with an adult decided, set end point seems to be the key marker of success. We don't think enough about how to support student to understand their own process of learning.

I've often been in appts with professionals with one of my children present where I'm wincing at the language & conversation being held in their earshot. Afterwards having to talk through what they've heard & ensure they don't internalise it. Definitely time to reevaluate this!
