UK bioethanol factories face closure after Trump trade deal — UK gave US 1.4bn litres tariff free quota. Equivalent to entire annual demand. And it seems no-one consulted Defra when they did it 🤷‍♂️. Signs of a deal that was done to fit Donald Trump’s press conference schedule. on.ft.com/43AADLa

Keir Starmer leads Nigel Farage by 15pts on who Britons think would be the best PM Starmer (44%) vs Farage (29%) Starmer (36%) vs Badenoch (25%) Starmer (27%) vs Davey (25%) Davey (41%) vs Farage (27%) Davey (33%) vs Badenoch (21%) Badenoch (29%) vs Farage (25%) yougov.co.uk/politics/art...

It is to the lasting shame of British politics that this man was prime minister for three years.

The incredible thing about the BBC is how, like the Labour Party, it has deliberately alienated all the people most likely to defend it. I’m a TV scholar, we’re almost duty bound to defend public service broadcasting, but I doubt you would find a single one of us willing to do that anymore.

I've wracked my brains & can only come up with one explanation that makes sense for the Labour direction. They think their only hope is that it comes to an election & we see that it is them or Reform. And that for all our big talk about hating them, we'll still vote for them to keep out Reform.

Starmer's anti-immigrant speech today wasn't just a moral and political embarrassment. It was also an intellectual embarrassment. inews.co.uk/opinion/star...

Farage’s immigration hysteria is now setting Labour’s agenda. I’m seriously doubtful - to put it mildly - of the political wisdom of accepting and amplifying Reform’s migration myths 👇🏻

🔴A Call From the Wallet Inspector Donald Trump has bounced Downing Street into a deal that benefits his own flagging administration, while offering little more than damage limitation to the UK www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/a-call-fro...

Even after today’s deal, Trump’s terrible tariffs will still be hitting British jobs and businesses hard. The only way we will end Trump's damaging trade war is by standing tough with our allies across Europe and the Commonwealth.

it's nice when Matt does actually nail it again

This is the best 100-day recap I’ve seen — and it begs the damn question: Why is his approval rating still 39%? Are folks in a coma?

When you refuse to accept his lies, you rob him of his power. If only more people had done this

Labour could have made the Youth Mobility scheme a positive. Instead they opposed it and now must frame it as a defeat, despite knowing all the time they'd have to accept something like it. God knows what kind of 4D chess calculation led them to this position. www.bestforbritain.org/feb_2025_mrp...

Britain, a trading nation, now has a vital choice to make about its priority trading partners: - the EU, where agreements are made, kept, reciprocal, based on international norms, & enforced by a court - the USA, where agreements are made, broken, changed & broken again at a whim, with no recourse

Faisal Islam, "The UK is talking to the EU, a reset for Brexit" "There's a lot more red tape now than when the UK was a member of the EU" "That's a natural consequence of Brexit"

🐣Also, I must inform you that the nigella.com Easter Egg Hunt is now live! There’s a fantastic Scanpan cookware set to be won, and much fun to be had, as regular players will attest! Details – and Easter recipe suggestions – on this link www.nigella.com/latest/easte...

One of the best photos I have seen in response to “why don’t you wear a suit”

Deeply concerning news about our friend and former BF teammate Rebecca Burke whose backpacking trip to the US has ended with her being detained by ICE for over ten days, with no clear timeline for her release. Please read her father's statement here: www.facebook.com/paulrburke

Trudeau is absolute class.

As have been saying for some weeks, we need to listen to what Trump and Vance are telling us. In a generational move, they’re reorienting the United States towards Russia. “The West”, for now at least, is ceasing to exist or operate as a concept.

Word of the Day is ‘ingordigiousness’ (18th century): extreme greed at the expense of principles.

Conservatives: We can't jump to conclusions about what the people Sieg Heiling from the CPAC main stage have in their hearts. Also Conservatives: Here's the 93rd book this year about how how liberals regulating sugar content in childrens' breakfast cereal "evokes" or "echoes" fascism.

All pretences dropped now. The US government has shifted its allegiances to Russia, and the entire basis of our security, tied as it was to an illusory special relationship, has just gone overboard. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

BREAKING: US voted against Ukraine's UN resolution which branded Russia the "aggressor" & demanded withdrawal of its troops. US on list of 18 nations also incl Russia, Iran and North Korea to vote against. UK & most European nations among 93 states to back Ukrainian resolution. China abstained.

My natter last week with @nickabbot.bsky.social on @LBC, as Musk's efforts to hold federal workers to account was over-ruled by several members of Trump's Cabinet. 🎧: audioboom.com/posts/865862...

The proper name for a country next to Russia that isn't in NATO is "next".

The main lessons the world will draw from the Ukraine saga will be: 1. Never trust any deal done with the Americans 2. Never give up nuclear weapons en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapes...

I’m assuming Boris Johnson has written two letters One in support of Ukraine & One in support of Trump

Zelensky is perhaps the defining figure of our age. Brave, ingenious, pragmatic and defined by his convictions. They hate him because he kills fascists.

So, Farage is a spokesperson for Trump and Trump is a spokesperson for Putin. It’s, quite ironically, like a game of Russian dolls. Except instead of dolls they’re ugly treacherous cunts.

I think I see a way through this "Ukrainian election" problem that is straightforward. Russia removes itself completely from all Ukrainian land, then Zelensky calls an election. There, problem solved.

There's a rumour that Nigel Farage is keeping his head down because he's off to a Trump cheerleading conference over the weekend. I’m afraid I’m being proved right- Farage is far more interested in Trump's success than British security. He is a bootlicker and a plastic patriot.

I regret to say there has been a lot of foolishness on some sections the left about #Ukraine, echoing Russian and far-right talking points. (Just as shamefully, the same people supported Assad in Syria). Now is the time to put that foolishness aside. We should all stand with Ukraine.

I’m George Takei and I approve of this message.

I don't see Trump demanding elections in Russia. ...ironically one year, almost to the day, after Alexei Navalny's murder.

From the other place…former Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace with this fact-based broadside against Trump.

Morning Bluesky. Former UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace today launched a ferocious attack on Trump’s lies about Ukraine and repetition of Kremlin propaganda.
