Ignoring the political point…..how is New York ranked first(?). It makes a nonsense of the report. London (the City and Westminster) and Greater London is an extraordinary place. A life time is not enough to discover it. NYC is a polluted car jammed gridlock and a weekend is enough to see it all.

There is a significant portion of the population that want to see a reduction in net migration. It does means more pressure on services. The politics here tho are obvious. It’s a pragmatic approach. Ideology is not helpful. It’s what got us into the mess in the first place.

This yet another atrocious deranged rant is shining a spotlight on the House of Representatives and American people. This man should not be allowed to hold public office at any level. They must act and impeach; failure to act will make them complicit in their country’s shocking demise.

Yes Farage has a lot to answer for but the UK is not destroyed. It has lots of problems but which country doesn’t. The majority of the nation is now positive towards closer economic ties with the EU and Trump is loathed.

True. On top of Dave is his spectacular Narcissism. And has been said his priority is to dominate and get his off on his attention kick. It could be argued for the World to say no and then ignore him.

The British government does get it. It’s the fear of populism ( and debating Brexit) that is making Mr Starmer’s rhetoric so guarded. He knows that we need better trading arrangements with the EU. It’s fiercely complex and dangerous time and no place for any ideology.

I am at a total loss as to why the labour gov is maintaining red lines that sustain trade barriers with you EU, while claiming growth is at the heart of their agenda. It must only be fear of Reform in traditional labour heartlands. Weak weak leadership.

In essence the government is actively working against business by not enabling effective and efficient trading conditions with EU countries. It’s perverse if we stand back and consider this for 5 mins.

The paradox is that a definition of joining is equally as important as that of leaving. Brexiters failed miserably on defining what leave should look like. A healthy compromise was always there. I still believe that willing compromise exists today.

Only an ideological useful fool would describe the EU as a tyranny. It’s clear that individual states are independent. Brexit by definition. The evidence is overwhelming that the UK has been disadvantaged including economically. Hence why the increasing majority want closer ties with the EU.

Absolutely right. This combined with destroying its soft power influence too (VOA for example), it’s proving the Chinese label of Trump correct: he is a ‘nation builder’ but just not his own!

Andrew Neil always believes he is saying something insightful and thought leading….in reality tho he perpetually demonstrates he is always ‘catching’ up.

F*ck the orange buffoon may have healed the Brexit wound and divide in our land.

Very true when looked in isolation. However it’s part of a playbook to undermine or displace a leader at war. It plays to his (and our) enemy. So no I will not save my outrage.

US foreign policy is now pro Russian and anti NATO and Europe. Trump called Mr Zelensky a Dictator, the Republican Senator from Alabama called him a Weasel. I appreciate the sentiment but ‘embarrassed’ doesn’t quite cover it I think.

There is no win here for the UK gov. I don’t read it as a pretence of normality more we just have to mange the best we can and ride the storm. The US administration is now borderline insane but it will fallout with itself in short time.

Lovely piece and helpful advice. I do believe the US pollution hitting us needs to be stopped at source and I have every hope the good people of the USA will help and rally and organise resistance.

At least one of the ‘assholes’ can be got gone. The other one, entitled and obsessed with making money off the state, is for life.

I await the government detailed strategy and plan for the NHS (and others). They must have plans because they have committed to £billions of spending and taxed us all to death and more.

I agree he is blaming the Tory execution, and policy change, however he is also blaming Brexit because it failed on migration. It’s a clever statement because it recognises both sides of this debate and holds the Tories to account. Ideology got us into this mess and is not going to get us out of it.

I am not sure why you’re disappointed. The point is not the politics of blaming the Tories used by Starmer, rather that Brexit was a policy change that is been held to account for immigration failure.
comment in response to

Yes he blames the Tories for changing policy to liberalise immigration….one nation…and goes on state Brexit was used to do this…it’s political but Brexit is being held to account in part . That’s a big step forward.

I suggest holding Brexit accountable for losing control of immigration is right. Because you need international partnerships to manage immigration given our geo. I also think it’s right to hold populism to account for lying.

I agree Lanie. I’d go one step further and suggest their obscene income should be stopped and replaced with a PAYE wage as a civil servant.

It is a vacuous argument by farmers. Pay your tax. Stop moaning. Everyone else has to. It’s still a great deal for farmers by comparison. It is a loop hole closed after it was opened in 1984. Now to fix our EU trading relationship please….
