There aren't any that are even close.

Even before the injuries we were pretty sterile in attack, and that's exacerbated now. But teams like Everton manage to create multiple chances in games with much lesser players, so it is clearly traceable back to the way we're set up. It's all about control at the expense of instinct or invention.

None of it feel right to me. Why not move for him last summer? Why wait until now with less than a week of the window left? Why spent £60m on a 29 year old with a worse record than Havertz this season? Just doesn’t feel like a move we should do and I’m very surprised we even tried it.

Well, second half.

Calling it now: Merino isn’t good enough. Too slow. Too anonymous. No idea why we wasted half the summer chasing him.

Hindsight is an easy thing, but where does the summer stand in the list of our most underwhelming transfer windows - and what was it down to? #arsecastextra

Don’t think Toney was the one, but pretty criminal to end up with Sterling as the back up to Saka when it was clear we didn’t want him. Not upgrading on Martinelli is an issue too. Our left flank is a real concern.

Big job for the new sporting director as this squad needs a serious attacking injection, and midfield needs work too. Last window was, in hindsight, our worst for quite some time.

Partey at right back affects the whole balance of the team. Offers no support for Saka, means Timber has to go to left back and it sets our midfield back too.

Too many attacking passengers in that squad. Unfortunately now includes Martinelli. Gone backwards over the last 18 months, far too predictable.

Wasn’t a header though…

He really never was. But just got exposed in the end.

Then there’s decisions to be made over quite a few players. Partey, Jorginho, Tomiyasu, Jesus, Tierney, Zinchenko, Kiwior - all could realistically go next summer. That is a big, big in-tray, just on squad rebuilding alone.

Where’s £55m come from? Release clause when he signed new deal in the summer?
