Where's the future where the lyrics of a song by Yes from 1998 that run in the credits for the game its inspired by?
I'll take that one.

That truly was The Death of the old wild west free internet. There's never been a better (cross platform) RSS reader, because all the digital ones out there have react js/tailwind css brained interfaces

Also we need an anti-AI software license because the (A)GPL and the open source movement don't solve anything. There need to be clear fines against non-human beings using my code, versus the main motive where John Nightreign is using a little .wav to .aif converter written in Scheme.

At this point, my only options are to keep my head down and not make noise, NOT do that, or find a space where I can write things where human expression is the primary focus and the profit motive simply cannot be the primary focus beyond it being necessary to pay the bills.

I got into software because I was told that software could improve people's lives and I saw that happening for me in my lifetime and upbringing.
Then google killed reader and it's been downhill ever since because the lead poisoning started to leech out of the VC's bones and into their bloodstream.

IMHO the people pushing AI right now can have their ethos summed up with the following quote:
"Life is pain. I hate-" -- Jerma
I think there is no coherent end goal beyond promises that can't be kept in an industry that has been built on making promises you never have to follow through.

yes, but I know who follows me on this site.

And no the AI bro in the comments being like "haha it's fine just use it a little bit to keep your brain active and undo the harm" is making shit up. You can only choose to stop regressing and resume living life like a human being.

I don't have a gambling addiction. I can stop using the LLM in front of me whenever I want. I will simply switch to another LLM until I hit the juckport.

put another way: if it's REALLY as simple as saying an idea out loud and being able to claim authorship as a shared concept then Musk has authorship for everything he demanded that became a reality. And I'm sorry but I cannot fathom anyone in this thread agreeing except to be contrarian.
comment in response to
post
It's why gamedevs make jokes about people who want to be "an ideas guy". They contribute to neither process nor product and do not have a right to claim authorship in any sense. Ownership? Sure. Fine. Whatever. But not authorship. They authored nothing.
comment in response to

I want to be clear: this isn't meant as a gotcha. I'm sincere in that someone having an idea and then saying it out loud and having someone else do it in exchange for money or some other exchange does not make them the author of anything. It might make them the *owner* but absolutely not the author.

And if he wasn't the one to submit it, and someone else had written a name on it, but he simply had the idea and told it that person, would he still be the author?

should I respond with
"and what if just the AI generated output is considered the final piece which is literally what this conversation has been about as everyone continues to move the goal posts to a broader topic instead of the context of the piece in question"
or just
"k"
you choose

correct! Now what if you at no point touched the synthesizer at all and instructed someone else to touch it but gave them just a general "vibe" and then also paid for the privilege to do this?
Would you be the author of that work at any point?
comment in response to

what author? who is the author? if i take an image and post it online am I the author of the image or the author of the post? These are not the same thing.
comment in response to

Thank for answering "no" in the most roundabout way you could. 🙏
comment in response to

how are you going to make an image model from scratch.
please enlighten me :)
This is not the "gotcha" you think it is.
comment in response to
post
Who is the author of the image. You cannot have authorial intent without an author. A image generator is not an author because it’s not a person and the person clicking a button is not the author either, they are as much as a consumer as someone who might commission a piece!
comment in response to
post
Furthermore, the original piece is a commentary on not being able to complete a piece because your life is being cut short. "finishing" it has everything to do with the content of the image.

That first comma was supposed to be a period.
comment in response to

C'mon man. you can google that shit. It's a fucking tweet dude. There's even a post about it from the Smithsonian's magazine that links to it.
comment in response to
post
The piece is not trying to say this! The person who posted it said as such, if the piece operates outside of what the poster intended, then that would mean AI is capable of intent sans prompt and we both know that is not possible!
comment in response to
post
Then your understanding is fucking wrong and always has been! The point of the piece was to shit on a dead man's art, as nazis are wont to do. Maybe admit fallibility here and just say "wow, I was so wrong. I am sorry for being wrong."
comment in response to
post
They are just nazis! It's that simple. Nazis DESPISE art, which is why they use AI to "make" their art.
comment in response to
post
This entire fucking discussion started because Manish mentioned someone posting an AI generated image to "finish" Haring's "Unfinished" and how the reaction to that made him lose respect for the anti AI art crowd and then veered into the "the idea" it was "premised" on.

You talked at length years ago about how you worked hard to never have to work on a farm, to never have to live that life.
And yet here you are, sowing.

Is that the point or is the point that someone posted AI shit on a fascist website to mock a faggot dying of AIDS.
comment in response to

The account that posted that fucking AI image literally has a meme about how mario jumps like a black guy and "grabs coins like a jew" from the 23rd of May.
What the fuck are you talking about.
comment in response to
post
This is some INSANE shit for you to be saying in the context of this conversation.
Are you really willing to claim that the mockery of human suffering is an art form worth engaging in and to be discussed seriously?
comment in response to
post
Art is communication. If it's ass or communicates nothing or people fucking hate it they're going to say it's *not art*.
Even if it's fucking beautiful and communicates a lot if people REALLY fucking hate it they are going to say its not art and you will have to sit there and mald.
