Having watched my daughter do one last year, I’d say running makes all the difference, you can then focus on the other elements, she couldn’t and is now a very regular runner

I would like to suggest that there is a little too much generalisation going on here, 4 members from my CrossFit gym did the London marathon yesterday and I had pizza and red wine on Friday having done 4 classes last week.
