My mainstays are paprika, mild ground chillies, celery salt, nutmeg, basil and white pepper. I also make some 'mix' from MSG, vegan-chicken-stock cubes, dried onions, salt, pepper and paprika as a generic seasoning powder.
But really you want to pick out the flavours you like and want to play with

Are you going to be using dried or tinned beans? I've also got a bit of an intolerance towards dried beans, no matter how long I soak them, so I generally use tinned.

I have a good sense of what herbs, spices and sauces go well together, so I usually just improvise a beans and rice dish using the sauces, herbs and spices I have. Just put them all into a rice cooker. Throw in some soy bits or fake-bacon bits if I have them. Do the seasoning after it's cooked.
