eh, her whole thing is Selfishness is Holy, is it odd that so many people gobble that up? Makes assholes feel fabulous.

sure agreed, i’m just devil’s advocating for the sport of it, in real life I condemn fundamentalism , it’s always bad results with those guys & patriotism? That just makes me smile ruefully.
Peace!

i mean look at the Shakers!
Brilliant furniture, true, absolute devotion to celibacy.
Downside, procreation comes in handy, keeping the fundamental sect alive-wise.
The Puritans were fundamentalist, views so extreme they were kicked out of Europe.
You must see an upside to that one, right?
comment in response to

i would argue that cultural narratives like patriotism & fundamentalism are tools for both good or evil, depending on a whole lot of things. Sometimes both!
comment in response to

my example was intended to draw a parallel between Fundamentalist religion & Patriotism in the context of reasons to be willing to die for your faith or country.
If it was about divide and conquer, that’s all doing fine without my modest contribution to the project.
comment in response to

most people not wired that way.
Apparently you need something that big to get people to die for their country.
Like the 40 Virgins I believe Mohammed indicated would be waiting for Martyrs in Heaven.
Need something a lot bigger than altruism, which half the people don’t even have anyway.

so in conclusion no it is not ‘good’ in & of itself, it’s mostly stupid, a reassuring nostalgia for a past that never was, often used as a tool of evil.
Would have thought we’d be past the need for that Idol by the Enlightenment but nope, need to give the boys a reason to die for their country.
comment in response to

When it’s a rooting for your team thing that’s fine but when it goes unconditional that’s fundamentalism, bad as in Iran Afghanistan Israel & much of u.s.

such a colossal waste of time until senate flips 21 seats. When he isn’t convicted he’ll scream he’s been vindicated from yet another witch-hunt & be strong more invincible than he is now.
OBVIOUSLY.

why would this matter? He’s king now, let them eat expensive eggs.

she’s getting so good at this, feels to me like she’s overcome her cognitive dissonance ambivalence about working inside the American Political Shit Show….so easy to imagine her winning the Presidency in 2028 or 32…..
That would be sweet.

And the war didn’t end for many years.
And even when it did, that was a policy change, not authoritarian regime change.
With 1 or 2 exceptions, Fascist regimes only fall by war or military coup.
civil rights, women’s rights, policy fights apples & oranges to authoritarian regime change.
comment in response to

Does it?
They don’t seem terribly concerned about getting votes—why sweat the small stuff when you suppress the vote, count the ballots, claim any loss is illegitimate, threaten political opponents and say things like ‘we don’t really need
elections anymore…’
comment in response to

hard to say what will bring the regime down, this is new for us.
Historically authoritarian regimes fall by war or military coup.
Difficult to predict future but those seem unlikely here.
Rarely, HUGE mobilization to streets can help.
Here? I wonder.
Does regime even care re pop support?

Sorry but you’re making a useless point.
They didn’t vote for her. They won’t vote for her. Move fucking on!
I told you so ‘s do nothing except make you seem clueless about the country you live in.
again, sorry for the harsh words but I’m so fucking sick of this kind of post.

I interviewed him for a local arts show special on NYC indie cinema while he happened to be putting this film to bed & have never met a human being more sleep-deprived, pale-faced & mentally fried as he. Locking picture is hard to do!
& such a great film came of it, a sweet, authentic & dark film.

also not hard to say she would have continued the policies D leadership has pursued for decades: lots of lip service, same result: genocide.
in this narrow regard at least now there’s clarity.
stop ignoring you’re living under a duopoly.
Trump regime is worse but not re Gaza

nah, par for his course, he thinks his idiotic notions are roguish & clever, sociopathic stupidity is his brand

no much more likely a rationalization for genocide in Gaza, which he also supports with gusto

yes, its name is Ben Dreyfus
comment in response to

Ben Dreyfuss has managed to monetize sticking his head up his ass while maintaining a self-congratulatory tone of what a clever head-up-his-ass rogue he is.
He’s stupid, he’s a sociopath, and he honestly believes every unbaked thought that flits thru his drug-addled brain is clever.

there will be blood.
but in big picture, not that much blood. and it will be well worth it.
already estimated that DOGE cuts etc will result in millions of deaths worldwide.
& it hasn’t been 100 days…
comment in response to

yes i understand.
i guess my point is there’s never going to be an effective time to talk about it because IT WILL NEVER, EVER WORK .
didn’t come close to working when he led a violent, lethal insurrection against our country.
historically only war or military coups depose despots.

do you honestly believe 20 R senators would *ever* vote to convict?
That’s what it would take.
Fuggedaboutit.
They literally fear for their families’ safety if they express policy differences with him now.

i’ll bet this ages badly cuz
1. Gives T way too much credit for being able to think beyond his impulses
2 He just doesn’t give a shit, thinks he’s King
3 He’s not worried about future D”s following lawless precedents, thinks he’ll be president forever

1/3 of us voted against him, 1/3 of us voted for him, 1/3 of us didn’t bother to vote.
so if we’re making up numbers for how many of us are decent & honorable people the phrase “the bulk of us” has no place in the conversation.
comment in response to

the bulk?
when roughly 1 out of 2 voters just re-elected him knowing exactly who he is & what he planned to do, ie terrorize & expunge brown people & wreak revenge on anyone who has ever crossed him?
The bulk?
Nah, i’d guess far fewer than 1 in 2.
Sorry world. Try your best to avoid us

we’re way past fair elections, millions Af Ams purged from voter rolls for the steal & now they own everything.
see how they’re handling Signall?
It’s ALWAYS lie, deny, lie bigger, never back down, never admit you lost.
They’ll never leave voluntarily.
you guys are so fucked.

Altered States was 1977, the year Cronenberg directed his 1st feature & maybe 4 years before he broke out with Scanners.
So yeah, those 2 universes did not align & yeah, if they had he woulda knocked it out of the park.

uh, & greenlit, provided political cover for & funded a genocide against the Palestinian people, on a scale that would be impossible to achieve without his wholehearted support.
When he could have ended it with a phone call as Reagent did for Lebanon in August 1982.
So a war criminal to boot.

And *next* time?
Fuggedaboutit.
Sorry but it’s over, folks. What they don’t own now they will steal.
I believe at some point the regime will collapse & it’s gonna be *real* messy.
And worth it.
comment in response to

Total agree.
Even aside from the possible Starlink factor the documented suppression of Af Am vote — millions purged from rolls in PA WI OH & more — was enough to steal it.

With all due respect the disparity between our understanding of the world is so profound I see no good in answering yr questions.
Still care about humanity, just better for my self-respect to do that as an ex-pat.

Spectacularly; tragically.

An institutionalist, not an agent for change.
In fairness, being the Jackie Robinson of American politics, I think I understand his restraint.
But he did not turn out to be the president I hoped he would be.

And they don’t work for us, save for notable exceptions AOC Bernie & a very few others.
It’s a duopoly & personally, I’n done with it. Between Biden’s genocide & the 2nd Coming of the Clown Messiah, I self-deported in January.
I had had enough.
It feels good.
