The Independent is one of my favorite papers, but like most they sometimes get it wrong. This is one such case. "Both rideshare giants are pushing back against legislation that would require fingerprinting as part of a criminal background check of drivers in the state." Problem: they don't work.

I'm used to poorly reported stories in the American media, and I'm not happy to see the same problem happening in Canada. Yes, they partnered with Waymo, but surprisingly few people know Uber was likely backstabbed by Google back in 2016. They thought GV's investment meant access to their AV tech.

I'm very glad #thegildedage is back, but I couldn't help but notice – yet again – a jarring omission in the opening credits: its greatest thespian by far. Audra McDonald has SIX Tonys, and she's the only person to win all FOUR acting categories. She's played Peggy's mother the past two seasons.

In today's least surprising news... "It didn’t quite happen. Tesla Inc. robotaxis began rolling Sunday in Austin — but only for invited passengers and in cars still overseen by a human safety monitor in the front seat." OTOH it's better than an unmanned car mowing down scores of people! #tesla

great job Trump voters

Yup. No notes.

A guy making $20 mil a year, but rents? Judging people's literal worth based on the borough where they live? Been there, done that, burned the fucking t-shirt! I love NYC, but not pretension, and it's gotten waaaaaaay more of it since I moved away. (Obvi bc I'm awesome, etc.)

Yet another reminder that X remains as sick of a cesspool as ever, despite Elon's apparent detente w/Trump. (ICYMI he deleted his most incendiary tweets from last week, most notably the one claiming Trump's in the Epstein Files.) Also, is there some reason xAI can't detect a clearly fake meme?

You know, I had my time in my youth in NYC and LOVED it, and on the whole I feel no need to go back. Days like this make me reconsider.

I completely agree there's a ludicrous disconnect between Trumpist propaganda & on-the-ground realities, but this is basically a rehash of summer 2020, when Trump had a meltdown over all the George Floyd protests. I also wouldn't call it a "stress test" per se. The media's already hugely warped.
