Because a reaction is amplified by our past wounds or conditioning, doesn't mean it is invalid or inappropriate to the current situation. Trauma responses absolutely coexist w/ perfectly valid, appropriate, "normal" feelings & responses. Don't reflexively pathologize them.

"Letting go" of pain isn't a one time event, because "hanging on" is a conditioned, heavily reinforced pattern in our nervous system (not a "choice"). What "letting go" actually involves is overwriting & rewriting those patterns & programming-- again, & again, & again, & again.

I just don't understand what the NYT is trying to accomplish here. "Promise Closer Scrutiny" implies that there was a lack, that childhood vaccines had not been sufficiently studied, and further that the new ACIP is committing to affirmative steps to remedy a dereliction. None of that is true.

Grief compounds when older wounds haven’t fully healed. A seemingly “normal” event feels cataclysmic if it taps into a backlog of ungrieved pain. If you’ve made space for that grief then the new waves don’t hit as hard. You’re not swimming in the whole ocean. You’re sitting on the shore.
