“A Busy, Busy Day at the Airport” By Ruben Bolling Genius. Click in.

The reason generative AI is so popular with wannabe creatives is best illustrated by something every pro writer has encountered: getting pitched an idea by someone saying "You write it and we'll split the profits!" because they think the idea is what has value, not the writing. The opposite is true.

Currently my favorite distraction on TikTok is this man who is CLEARLY in like, THE BEST shape, finding things that other athletes can do (and often the things they're doing are typically femme) and seeing if he also can do that With the "assistance" of the best dog named Dootie I love this

Also Star Wars (it wasn't the stars who were warring, it was people and some aliens)

John Herbert was convicted of indecency after he was robbed in Toronto while dressed as a woman. His time in prison inspired him to write a play about his experience. It became the most-widely produced play in the history of Canadian theatre. This is his story. 🧵1/10

TIL that the CBC has a bigger global online audience than @wsj.com or @washingtonpost.com. CBC 🇨🇦: 103.2 million monthly visits WSJ 🇺🇸: 97.2 million WaPo 🇺🇸: 89.5 million (Overall top 3: @nytimes.com 657M, BBC 550M, @cnn.com 515M.) pressgazette.co.uk/media-audien...

Fabulousness from @raprevec.bsky.social. ;)

I am officially one of The Ancients, Keeper of Knowledge of the Before Time

I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost

Bilbo Baggins: Professional Burglar

Harvard researcher Dr Sarah Fortune was only two years away from creating a vaccine that could have saved the 1.25 million people killed each year by tuberculosis. But last month, she received a letter telling her that the $60 million grant funding her research was being halted by President Trump.

I wish all my loading screens were just Henry patiently trotting along.

Some longer thoughts on this topic over on my site. Also, if you're a native-born US citizen, now is an excellent time to get a certified copy of your birth certificate, and to get a passport with a passport card: whatever.scalzi.com/2025/06/03/w...

The Strong Borders Act, aka Trump Appeasement Act, will "remove barriers that prevent police from searching mail." So like, stop-and-frisk now extends to the mail. Good stuff. Thread ⬇️ on bigger picture concerning border clampdowns, which have no basis in evidence for reducing drug flows.

Cuts have consequences, illustrated. As seen on TV 📺

Interesting thread.

This is a horrifying hate crime. RIP Jonathan Joss. www.yahoo.com/news/king-hi...

When I turned 40 I made a specific effort to always reach out for the rail on the stairs. Here at 56 it's now entirely automatic, and has absolutely and literally saved my ass several times.

Here's the moment it happened. MPP Mamakwa spoke the truth about Bill 5 and the government can't face the truth. Bill 5 must be scrapped.

This is Bodie. He’s here to celebrate the start of Pride Month. Been working on this pose for weeks. 14/10 the parade starts right behind him 🌈🐾 (IG: hellobodie)

Heavily armed paramilitary forces stormed a local San Diego restaurant today, deployed stun grenades against a crowd of onlookers, and kidnapped a handful of kitchen workers.

Say what you will about Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov but he nailed it when he named Flight of the Bumblebee. That shit really does sound like a bumblebee flying

Oh The Urbanity: "Show me a city with a legally protected mansion district near downtown and I'll show you a city that hasn't really taken the housing crisis seriously." Halifax:

The Presidents Budget Request for NASA is out. It’s a bloodbath Canceled are DAVINCI, VERITAS, Juno, OSIRIS-APEX, US participation in ExoMars and EnVision… Huge cut to R&A. No funding to begin development of the Uranus Orbiter. If you’ve ever cared about NASA, time to contact congress.

Breaking from @science.org: The Trump administration wants to kill off a host of active and healthy NASA climate and planetary spacecraft. It would be a "leaner, more focused" agency, they say -- and one far less capable of studying the Earth and exploring space.

🤣

You need this today. For morale.

Thousands of Ontarians have spoken up. First Nations leaders, workers, experts—all calling out Doug Ford’s shameless power grab. Last night, we held the line and delayed this bill. Now the Premier has a choice: will he listen to the people and scrap Bill 5?

22 years ago I pivoted from working on antibiotic resistance to pandemic viruses. Since then, I've argued that if we care about saving US lives in expectation, advance capacity for producing bird flu vaccine offers by far the greatest expected return on investment. ... We were so goddamn close.

I finally watched Conclave. I like that Ralph Fiennes has the same energy as Kermit the Frog trying to keep The Muppet Show from going off the rails.

#BREAKING: The Ontario NDP Caucus is filibustering in committee right now, fighting to stop Doug Ford’s Bill 5 power grab. We’re using every tool we’ve got — amendment by amendment, speaker by speaker — to fight this power grab and hold Ford to account. Watch live: www.ola.org/en/legislati...

You just know he's going to blow it all on squeaky toys & catnip.

Second last paragraph, after a lot of talk about how much lower American taxes are… 🙄

The biggest endorsement I can make for Bluesky is that replacing Twitter with this app on my phone probably improved my general mood when I’m on my phone by 20-25%. I know there are better reasons but it is what it is!

A great Cory Doctrow interview in the Tyee. 'The Internet Sucks.' Cory Doctorow Tells How to Fix It via @thetyee.ca thetyee.ca/Culture/2025...

Thank you to CBC for explaining to viewers that the King doesn't write this speech, it's a government document. In case this sounds like sarcasm, I'm being genuine. People need to know this, and far too many don't.
